Happy Retirement to Koloa Public Library librarian David Thorpe (who actually retired on Aug. 31!). David came out of retirement to greet the Koloa Early Learning School entourage of students, teachers and parent chaperones on Friday, when the preschool visited the library on a field trip (the library normally opens at noon on Fridays.) The school used the visit to present Thorpe with a retirement card and lei along with mahalo for all his help through the years.

Coach Fred Sasan (didn’t he retire?) said there will be a preseason cross-country meet at Island School on Saturday. The first race starts at 9 a.m.
Kudos to Paul Pancho and all of the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League on its opening of the 2023 season on Sunday. The season kicks off with a jamboree and daylong schedule of tackle football contests at the Hanapepe Stadium (wait, didn’t we just do the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation football game on Saturday night?). The jamboree is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Food and drinks for purchase will be available to benefit the different associations that make up KPWFL.
Edwin Vea reminds people that more than 40 vendors will be at the Beach House Craft Fair on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you’re heading west for the Pop Warner games, this is a nice stopping point from the eastside.
