Mark King Guthrie
Mark King Guthrie died in Honolulu on Nov. 4, 2006, at the age of 54.
He was born in Fairfax, Va., where he resided into his mid-20s and in 1977, moved to Winchester, Va., where he became principal owner of Guthrie Art & Sign Co., a successful outdoor advertising company. For the past 23 years, he split his time working summers in Virginia and wintering on Kaua‘i.
When not on a golf course, he enjoyed working with tools on both his home and vehicles.
Survivors include his father, Edgar King Guthrie of Honolulu; daughters Leslie and Tyna Guthrie; sister Melody Johnson; nephew Brett Johnson; two grandsons, David and Marcus Tactikos; and his beloved of 23 years, Barbara Childers.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to The Kaua‘i Humane Society, P.O. Box 3330, Lihu‘e, HI 96766-6330.
Margaret Gomes
Margaret Gomes of Kekaha died Nov. 14, 2006, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 79.
Born May 9, 1927, in Lihu‘e, she was a homemaker and was known by many as the “Patele Lady.”
She is survived by four sons, Angel (Lorita) Santiago Jr., Ronald (Irwette) Santiago, Chico (Tammy) Santiago and Manuel (Val) Santiago; two daughters, Sharon Mae Ader Santiago and Matilda (George) Inouye; one sister, Macklin Boreliz; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Fred. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
David Kailikini Kaneholani Sr.
David Kailikini Kaneholani Sr. of Anahola died Nov. 16, 2006, at his home at the age of 59.
He was born March 29, 1947, in Honolulu.
He was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Nina Kaneholani Sr.; sister and brother-in-law Rosemary and Kila Sanay; parents Herbert Kaneholani Sr. and Elizabeth Kaneholani; and foster mother Annie Lemn.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte Kiilau Kaneholani; children Walter Masao (Lehua) Iopa, Mollie Ray Napua (Edean) Gardner, Charla Ann (John) Brock, David (Shirlee) Kaneholani Jr., Sarah Kaneholani, Maycia Rae (Shane) Villlacruz and Kealaonaona Iopa; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers Herbert (Star) Kaneholani Jr., George (Cheryl) Kaneholani, John (Leila) Kaneholani, Billy Kaneholani, Jerry Kaneholani, Clement Kaneholani and Daniel (Eva) Kaneholani; sisters Olinda (York) Higashi, Midge (Blackie) Asai, Miriam Kupihea,Tatiana Kaneholani and Olandra Kaleiohi; foster father William Lemn Sr.; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins, as well as numerous children who at some time in their lives decided to live at his home.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24, at his home, 3842 Mahuahua Rd. in Anahola, where services will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cremation will be done at a later date.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Kay Marie Sandilands
Kay Marie Sandilands of Lihu‘e died on Nov. 10, 2006, at the age of 70. She was born in Brockway, Pa., on July 26, 1936, and retired as an executive secretary with Bechtel.
She is survived by her brother George (Kay) Morrison of Ohio; friend Janet Blane of Kapa‘a; one niece and one nephew.
Services will be held in the Mainland.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
