John Elwin
John Arthur Harry Elwin, long-time Kaua‘i resident, died while vacationing in the Philippines on May 14, 2006 at the age of 50.
Born on May 23, 1955, in Winnipeg, Canada, he visited Kaua‘i in the 1970s, loved the island lifestyle, and made Kaua‘i his home. For over 20 years, John owned and operated Kapaa Paint, a business he built from the ground up. Having recently retired, he enjoyed playing polo and traveling the world. He lived life to its fullest.
John was well-known in the community for his successes, charismatic personality and generous nature, but above all, he was most proud of his daughter Jenny.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter Jennifer; parents Charles Arthur and Olive Doreen Elwin of Canada; sister Edith (Hans) Jud of Switzerland; brother Christopher (Kristi) Elwin of Kalaheo; nephews Brandon, Tyler and Ryan Elwin of Kalaheo; as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with family members at the Waioli Huiia Church in Hanalei on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a memorial service to start at 11 a.m. Friends are welcome to join the celebration of John’s life. Media and reporters are requested to refrain from attending. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
Maria Alquiza
Maria Francisco Alquiza of Hanapepe Heights died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on Nov. 20, 2006, at the age of 93.
Born in Laoag, Philippines on Nov. 20, 1913, she was a housewife. She is survived by three sons, Pete (Kapu) M. Alquiza, Glenn (Cindy) M. Alquiza and Stanley (Paula) N. Alquiza, all of Hanapepe; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Conrado (Sumile) M. Francisco of Kaumakani and Juan M. Francisco of Hanapepe; sister, Oliva F. Gubaton of Kaumakani; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service officiated by Pastor James Brooking will begin at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Hanapepe Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

David Kaneholani Sr.
David Kailikini Kaneholani Sr. of Anahola died Nov. 16, 2006, at his home at the age of 59.
He was born March 29, 1947, in Honolulu.
He was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Nina Kaneholani Sr.; sister and brother-in-law Rosemary and Kila Sanay Sr.; parents Herbert Kaneholani Sr. and Elizabeth Kaneholani; and foster mother Annie Lemn.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte Kiilau Kaneholani; children Walter Masao (Lehua) Iopa, Mollie Ray Napua (Edean) Gardner, Charla Ann (John) Brock, David (Shirlee) Kaneholani Jr., Sarah Kaneholani, Maycia Rae (Shane) Villlacruzes and Kealaonaona Iopa; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers Herbert (Star) Kaneholani Jr., George (Cheryl) Kaneholani, John (Leila) Kaneholani, Billy Kaneholani, Jerry Kaneholani, Clement Kaneholani and Daniel (Eva) Kaneholani; sisters Olinda (York) Higashi, Midge Asai, Miriam Kupihea,Tatiana Kaneholani and Olandra Kaleiohi; foster father William Lemn Sr.; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins; as well as numerous children who at some time in their lives decided to live at his home.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24, at his home, 3842 Mahuahua Rd. in Anahola, where services will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cremation will be done at a later date. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.

Marcy LeeAnn Black of Kapa‘a died Nov. 17, 2006, at her home at the age of 51.
Born May 11, 1955, in Wisconsin, she was a psychologist for the State of Hawai‘i.
She is survived by her husband Albert “Al” Alamodin of Kapa‘a; two daughters, Angie (John) Black of California and Nikki (Charlie) Hoey of California; mother Marian Ruatti of Wisconsin; brothers John Ruatti of Wisconsin and Richard Podowski of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Kalihiwai Bay, where a celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
