Shigeno Nishida
Shigeno Nishida of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died on Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the Ann Pearl Nursing Facility at the age of 90.
Born in Kapa’a, Kaua’i on May 20, 1911, she was a homeamker and member of the Kapa’a Hongwanji.
She is survived by her son, Herbert (Barbara) Nishida of Honolulu; daughters, Evelyn (Craig) Austin of Honolulu and Susan (Gary) Morita of Honolulu; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Private services were held in Honolulu.
Hosoi Garden Mortuary handled arrangements.
Florentino Paler
Florentino Paler of Anahola, Kaua’i, died at home on Aug. 21, 2001, at the age of 63.
Born in Moloa’a, Kaua’i on Aug. 17, 1938, he was a maintenance worker with Kaua’i Surf.
He is survived by: three daughters: Noe (Norman) Hookano of Makaweli, Kaua’i, Sandy (Moke) Keale of Anahola, Kaua’i, and Lorey (Kaipo) Napoleon of Wailua, Kaua’i; seven grandchildren; brother: Vernon (Phyllis) Paler of Wailua, Kaua’i; two sisters: Lorraine (Johnny) Corpuz of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i and Asuncion Jacinto of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service to begin at 11 a.m. Followed by cremation. Casual attire is suggested.

Francisco Garcia
Francisco Salud Garcia of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Hospital on Aug. 24, 2001, at the age of 59.
Born in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Oct. 5, 1941, he was a retired truck driver with Lihu’e Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by: his wife: Victoria Garcia of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i; son: Jeff Garcia of Hanamaulu, Kaua’i; two daughters: Zeldalynn Delgado of Honolulu, O’ahu and Bernadette Ann Garcia of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i; parents: Ismael & Angela Garcia; brother: Dencio (Editha) Garcia of Puhi, Kaua’i; three sisters: Mary Manguchei of Wailua, Kaua’i, Pat (Marcos) Aguda of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ellen Garcia of Las Vegas, Nev., numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Friday Aug. 31, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; mass to begin at 11 a.m. Followed by burial at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.

Claudio Lumacad, Jr.
Claudio B. Lumacad, Jr. of Koloa, Kaua’i, died at home on Aug. 26, 2001, at the age of 74.
Born in Lihu’e, Kaua’i, on March 19, 1927, he was a Heavy Equipment Operator.
He is survived by his wife: Lilian Inoshita Lumacad of Koloa, one son, Claude (Karen) Lumacad of Koloa, one daughter: Donna (Robert) Yamamoto of Koloa; one sister: Flora Bukoski of Koloa, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Aug. 31, at Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, from 2 p.m. Services to be celebrated at 3 p.m. Burial to follow at The Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

Michael Valenti
Michael Errante Valenti of Kekaha, Kaua’i, died at home on Aug. 25, 2001 at the age of 44.
Born in Nebraska, on April 3, 1957, he was a truck driver for transportation.
He is survived by his two daughters: Jeni Valenti and Lori Valenti, his parents: Ann & Errante Valenti; Life Partner: Marcia Hoffman, five sisters: Teresa, Toni, Catherine, Connie, Angela, nieces and nephew.
Friends may visit with the family for a direct graveside service on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 5:30 p.m. at the Kekaha Public Cemetery for a direct burial. Casual attire is suggested.

Paul Quinn
Paul Quinn of Princeville, Kaua’i, died at his residence on Aug. 1, 2001, at the age of 68.
Born in Massachusetts, on Dec. 6, 1932, he was an educational assistant with DOE of Koloa Elementary and Kapa’a Middle School. He also served in the United States Marines.
He is survived by his wife: Teresa Quinn; daughters: Michele Valenti, (Kumu Mikala) and Melissa Crawford of Palatine, Ill., sons: Patrick Quinn, Michael Quinn of Massachusetts, brother: Jim (Sally) Quinn of Boncord, N.H., sister: Joan in the mainland, numerous sisters and brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A private service was held and burial was held at the Veterans Cemetery.
Donations may be sent to Kaua’i Hospice.

Bernice Fehr
Bernice Leilani Cockett-Fehr, prominent Koloa Town Historian and Botanical Garden Society member died Aug. 18, 2001at the Hale Oma’o Nursing Home, at the age of 92.
Born in Kaua’i, Hawai’i on Aug. 23, 1909, she was a homemaker.
As a Life long resident of Koloa, Bernice became a noted Koloa Town Historian with her contributions to “Historic Koloa” in 1985. She was an active volunteer with the Na Lima Kokua at the National Tropical Botanical Gardens serving as it’s President from the Spring of 1983 to the spring of 1986.
Her brother Irwin Cockett, Sr.; her sister, Maude Silva; husband, Winters Fehr and son, Donald Lloyd Roderick, precede her in death.
She is survived by grandson, Llew Roderick of San Jose, CA; niece Dorothea M. Bush of Great Falls, MT; nephew Irwin Cockett Jr. of Honolulu, 2 great-great grandchildren, and life friends Ron Clark of Kapa’a and John N. Ono of “Cockett Hill”.
Because she was devoted to preserving the culture and natural beauty of the Hawaiian spirit, memorial donations in lieu of flowers, may be sent in her name to the National Tropical Botanical Garden, 3530 Papalina Rd., Kalaheo, HI 96741.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, noon at the Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary in Koloa with scattering of ashes from the Kukui’ula Boat Harbor at 2 p.m.
