RK30 births seventh pup

NA PALI — RK30, the popular Hawaiian monk seal who went head-to-head with a Kauai resident at Salt Pond beach on April 26, has given birth to her seventh pup.

NOAA was notified by Napali Kayak Company Tuesday that the seal had hauled out and has a new little one with her. The entity received confirmation in a blurry photograph.

Jamie Thomton, Kauai’s marine mammal response program coordinator for NOAA, said he’ll go out and check on RK30 and her pup when the rough swell calms enough to go investigate safely.
