WAIMEA — It’s been ten years since the Kauai chapter of the Surfrider Foundation held their first event, the Pine Trees Classic on Earth Day 2006.
And on Saturday, the organization will be throwing a celebration, marking the May 7, 2006, debut organizing committee meeting that started the Kauai chapter of the worldwide organization.
Barbara Wiedner, vice chairwoman for the organization, said the event is going to be a night to remember.
“There will be food and drinks and music,” Wiedner said. “It’s not really a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of our members.”
The Greenery Café will cater food and there will be live music by the Kauai band OCDC, which plays a mix of blues, jazz, rock, pop, funk, and hiphop. Katie The Trivia Girl will be hosting a Surfrider trivia contest and there will also be a raffle for those who attend.
The raffle will provide a chance to score ocean art, a Kauai Adventure photo session, or gift certificates for a tattoo, Koloa Rum, and Olympic Cafe.
The 10th anniversary celebration will be held at the Nawiliwili Yacht Club from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Members get into the celebration free and there will be an opportunity for people to become new members at the door. For non-members admission is a donation of $10.
