LIHUE — Electric Vehicle dealers and owners will be showing off their cars at the National Drive Electric Week event at Kukui Grove Center on Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Even if you’ve never thought about owning an EV, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about them,” Paul and Myra Deyden of PoipU, Kauai’s Drive Electric Week coordinators and EV owners said. “We think EVs are a great fit for KauaI.”
The event will offer ride-and-drive opportunities and drivers can learn about the clean-air benefits and potential cost-savings of EVs.
Kauai Island Utility Cooperative and the County of Kauai are sponsoring the Drive Electric Week event to be held on the west side of the Kukui Grove Center parking lot fronting the highway. Aloha Kia and Kuhio Auto Group will have electric vehicles on-site for participants to test drive.
EV owners are encouraged to show off their cars and talk story with other owners as well as with drivers interested in learning more about the benefits of driving electric.
“Electric vehicles help us to shift from petroleum to clean energy, reducing carbon emissions and strengthening our local economy at the same time,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho.
Kauai’s event is one of more than 150 events across the country.
