LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School, winning both the Girls and Boys divisions of the inaugural Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Wrestling season, placed six girls and seven boys on the all-star teams, in a Monday announcement by KIF.
“This was a great inaugural year for KIF Wrestling and the KIF thanks everyone for the tremendous support it received to make this a successful season,” KIF executive secretary Diane Nitta said in an email announcement.
Filling six — three freshmen, two juniors and a senior — of the 10 spots in the Girls Division, Kaua‘i’s Kaisa Ishikawa, a freshman, was named to the Girls 97, Ku‘uipo Rapozo, a senior, to the Girls 101, Courtney Brock, a junior, to the Girls 109, Elizabeth Oshiro, a junior, to the Girls 113, Nika Tapucol, a freshman, to the Girls 130, Sanoe Kalama, a freshman, to the Girls 135.
Kapa‘a placed two wrestlers, including Shiori Leger, a sophomore, to the Girls 155 and Kristina Ragusante, a senior, to the Girls 220.
Waimea placed two wrestlers, Marissa Hesapene, a senior, to the Girls 105 and Johnna Akana, a junior, to the Girls 117.
In the boys arena, Kaua‘i placed in seven of 12 spots, including Keenan Kaya, a junior, getting the Boys 108, Bryson Yoro, a freshman, getting the Boys 125, Shawn Taguas, a senior, filling the Boys 140, Nick Gabriel, a sophomore, to the Boys 152, Michael Gabriel, a junior, to the Boys 160, Kapono Lopes, a sophomore, to the Boys 171, and Kahiau Rogers, a senior, to the Boys 189.
Waimea High School placed three boys, including Nicholas Cariffe, a junior, to the Boys 130, Charlie Kahepu‘u, a junior, to the Boys 215, and Ian Garcia, a sophomore, to the Boys 285.
Kapa‘a finished with two wrestlers named to the all-star squad, including Elijah Koga, a senior, to the Boys 135 and Storm Haire, a junior, to the Boys 145.
