LIHU‘E — Khentrul Lodrö Thayé Rinpoche, a respected teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, will give a public talk on meditation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael and All Angels Church in Lihu‘e.
“Our minds are filled with myriad thoughts that move ceaselessly like waves on the surface of the ocean,” said Rinpoche. “We are in constant turmoil and our minds are obscured, like a sky enshrouded by clouds. So we cannot develop inner peace and happiness. This is the main source of suffering. If we know how to meditate correctly, we will be able to unveil the secret of our mind and thus establish a basis for happiness within ourselves.”
Rinpoche invited the public to join him Thursday as he shares his wisdom and experience with meditation and changing our experience from the inside out.
Rinpoche has taught for many years at monasteries in Tibet and India, and is the abbot of Katog Mardo Tashi Choling in Eastern Tibet. He directs the education and spiritual practice for over 300 monks.
Acknowledged as a scholar of the highest level, he has received the title of “Khenpo” — equivalent to a doctor of philosophy — three separate times. He has also been recognized by His Holiness Katog Moktza Rinpoche as a “tulku” — a re-incarnate master — of Drubtop Namkha Gyamtso of Katog Monastery.
Katog Tara Ling is sponsoring Rinpoche’s Feb. 28 visit to Kaua‘i. All are welcome and a $10 donation is suggested at the door; however, no one will be turned away because of lack of funds.
