Arthur Budd
Arthur Richard Budd of Kapa‘a died Nov. 17, 2011, at home at age 90. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Jan. 26, 1921.
After serving in WWII as a naval aviator in the Pacific theatre, earning the Air Medal for meritorious service, he finished his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah and his doctor of dental surgery at USC. He practiced dentistry in California for 50 years, retiring at the age of 80 to Kaua‘i. He was a lifelong student of history, poetry, nature, aviation, science, gardening and poker. Arthur was also a devoted fan of University of Utah and USC football.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire; son, Arthur Richard Budd Jr.; sister, Annie Laurie Lloyd; and brother, Maurice Budd.
He is survived by children, Nancy (Roy Yamakawa) Budd, Gary (Dana Paniagua) Budd, Dianne (Andrew Wolff) Budd, Jordan (Paris Awalt) Budd, and Julie Kozak; grandchildren, Eric Budd, Claire Wolff, Lauren Calhoun, Ian Wolff, Susannah Budd and Rachel Budd; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beverly Todd and Shirley Pusey.
A memorial and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Waimea Plantation Cottages’ private dining room, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The family respectfully requests no flowers or koden.
Terry Yagihara
Terry T. Yagihara of Kilauea died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at home at age 89.
Born Sept. 23, 1922, in Hanalei, he served in the U.S. Army’s 987th Air Engineer Squadron as an interpreter during World War II. He retired from the County of Kaua‘i as a road district clerk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Saichi and Hagino Yagihara; wife, Audrey Yagihara; brother, Teruaki Yagihara; and sister, Doris Cabbab.
He is survived by his two sons, Terence Yagihara (Lianne Ching) of Hilo and Scott (SheriAnn) Yagihara of Kilauea; sister, Mabel Sunada, brother, Glenn (Violet) Yagihara; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel with visitation from 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 11:30 a.m.
