There are a few more openings for the Youth Basketball Clinic, said Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association.
The clinic, scheduled for Oct. 3-5, will be at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center and will feature Coach Dennis Agena of the Kalakaua Basketball Clinic.
“Monday is the start of fall break for most students, and since Coach Agena will be busy doing clinics on other islands and in California during the summer, this was one of his openings,” Matsumoto said. “Coach was here in March at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center and we’ve received only positive comments and requests for him to return for more.”
Registration is limited to 70 players, boys and girls from grades 5 through 12, Matsumoto said.
Registration fee is $20 for the clinic co-sponsored by the KYBA and the County of Kaua‘i. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4. On Oct. 5, the clinic will operate from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a break for lunch between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Matsumoto said KYBA will be providing lunch and refreshments for the students each day, and Big Save has made a small donation to help with grocery costs.
“This is a great community effort,” Matsumoto said.
Participants need to bring a basketball, basketball shoes and attire of shorts, T-shirt or tank top.
Matsumoto suggested that participants should be available to attend all three days of the clinic for the best learning opportunity.
