Kaua‘i’s Dylan Goodale won his Round of 128 heat yesterday in the O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro in Sebastian Inlet, Fla.
Goodale was one of four surfers to take the water yesterday and finished with a collective score of 13.60. Goodale beat fellow Hawai‘i surfer Matt Meola (11.50) and two Mainland surfers — Jason Harris (6.90) and Justin Jones (4.60).
The 4-star O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro is the opening event for the Association of Surfing Professionals World Qualifying Series for the year.
The top 15 surfers at the end of the grueling association’s world qualifying season earn a berth on to the coveted ASP World Tour, where they have the opportunity to compete at the highest level of competitive surfing in a chance to earn an ASP World Title.
Other Hawai‘i surfers in the competition include Dege O’Connell and Albee Layer.
