All of today’s soccer games between the Kapa‘a and Waimea high school squads should go on as planned at the Kapa‘a Stadium, according to Warrior athletic director Greg Gonsalves.
However, the call on whether the four games will be postponed or if they will be moved, will be made by Gonsalves between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation rules state that the call must be made three hours before the time of the first game — which is the 10 a.m. girls junior varsity game.
He said that, so far, Kapa‘a hasn’t made any contingency plans if there is a problem with the field. Gonsalves has contacted county officials about possibly using another venue, but hasn’t heard back with confirmations that Vidinha or Hanapepe are available for use.
He said Kapa‘a’s field looked questionable yesterday, but he’s banking that everything will dry up in time.
“My intention is that we play all the games (in Kapa‘a),” Gonsalves said. “But if we need to make the calls and changes, then we’ll do it.”
This season, four varsity games and five junior varsity games have been postponed or canceled.
The Kaua‘i/Waimea varsity games that were originally scheduled for Dec. 17, will be played on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
This week’s Kaua‘i/Kapa‘a games will be made up on Tuesday, Dec. 30, also at the same times.
