Sixteen swimmers from Kaua‘i will be heading to the 2008-09 Hawaiian Swimming Age Group SCY Championships this weekend.
In separate releases, Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics announced it will be sending a total of 14 swimmers while Mokihana Aquatics will be sending two swimmers to the state meet that runs from Dec. 19 to 22 at the Veterans’ Memorial Aquatic Center at the Central O‘ahu Regional Park.
According to the SKA release, 11 swimmers earned individual qualifying times and will be competing in the Short Course State Championships.
Those swimmers include Bryson Baligad, Tyson Chihara, Casie Ford, Maliana Kaui, Ka‘eo Kruse, Ryann Linthicum, Anya Littlefield, Desiree Pia, Aaron Pigott, Emma Rausch and Sinead Sims.
Joining these 11 swimmers will be Juli Blachowiak, Nani Rugendorf and Danielle White who will be joining their teammates in relay events at the state meet.
Additionally, Melanie Grindle, Tori Kobayashi and Jack Machorek earned individual qualifying times for the meet, but will not be attending the event.
According to a release from Mokihana Aquatics, Kaitlin Santos, 13, will be competing in four events and Yasmine Ware, 11, will be swimming in eight events.
Coach Orlando Anaya of Mokihana Aquatics said both of these young swimmers are in the first half of their group and he expects them to make a good showing at the state meet.
Coach Billy Brown of SKA said, “I am so proud of our athletes. They have been working so hard and are ready for this. For some of our kids, this will be their first state meet and I know it’s going to be an exciting weekend.
Kaui, 10, will be swimming in two events. Kruse, 10, will be competing in six events. Baligad, 11, will swim in two events.
Linthicum and Littlefield, both 14, will be swimming in 11 events each. Rausch, 15, will be going for seven events and Pigott, 16, is slated for two events.
Ford, Pia and Sims, all 17 years old, will be competing in eight events each with all three competing in three relay events.
Chihara, 18, rounds out the SKA individual swimmers, qualifying for eight events with three ZONE times.
