Alfredo Potes
Alfredo Potes died on Dec. 9, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 84.
Born on Oct. 15, 1924, in Hilo, Hawai‘i, he was a retired electrician supervisor.
Preceded in death by son Alfred Potes Jr.
Survived by wife Priscilla Potes of Lihu‘e; children Daniel (Soledad) Potes of Virginia, Naomi Potes of Lihu‘e, El Wallace of California, Florante “David” (Elizabeth) Potes of Oahu, Michael Potes of Las Vegas; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.
Kauai‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Potes family with arrangements.
Karen Fukushima
Karen “Ma” Danette Fukushima died on Dec. 4, 2008, at the Hilo Medical Center at the age of 52.
Born in Hilo, Hawai‘i, on June 10, 1956, she was a substitute teacher.
Survived by husband Roy M. Fukushima of Kea‘au, Hawai‘i; daughters Maykalena (Rodolfo) Rios, Jaqueline Fukushima, both of Kea‘au, Hawai‘i; sons Roy Keoki Fukushima, Robert Fukushima and Kelvin Fukushima, all of Kea‘au, Hawai‘i; father Henry Peters of California; sisters Bernie Astrande of Oregon, Donna Feliciano of Hilo, Margie Ferreira of Michigan, Mel Peters of Alaska; brothers-in-law Glenn (Debra) Fukushima of Kea‘au, Dennis (Leslie) Fukushima of Puna; sister-in-law Lynn (Darwin) Lilly of Washington State; six grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. with funeral service to follow, on Dec. 19, at DoDo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Cremation will be held Dec. 20. Casual attire is suggested.

Ralph Barnhart
Ralph L. Barnhart died on Nov. 30, 2008 at the age of 85.
Born on Oct. 11, 1923, in Kansas, he was retired from the U.S. Navy.
Survived by wife Dorothy Barnhart; daughters Billie Sparks, Lynne Halbritter; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are pending at this time.

Wayne Yamamoto
Wayne Yamamoto, of Lihu‘e
died on Dec. 3 , 2008 at Garden Isle Healthcare at the age of 60.
Born on August 1, 1948, he was a welder with Lihu‘e Plantation Company.
Survived by daughter Kristy Swinehart of Wisconsin; two sons and brother Milton of Koloa, Melvin (Elaine) of Lihu‘e, Dexter (Charlene) of Hanapepe and Kenneth of Kapa‘a.
Private services will be held.

Sachiko Yoshimoto
Sachiko Yoshimoto died on Dec. 11, 2008, at the Garden Isle Health Care at the age of 98.
Born on Feb. 22, 1910, in North Kohala, Hawai‘i, she was a cook at Lawai Restaurant.
Preceded in death by husband Hakaru Yoshimoto.
Survived by sister Izumi Shirai; nieces Janice (Mark) Maehata and Sandra (Ray) Seibert; nephews Clyde (Shirley) Shirai and Myles (Julie) Shirai.
Services will be held from 5 p.m. on Dec. 18, at Koloa Union Church
Casual attire is suggested and flower donations are optional.

Johnette Waiamau
Johnette K. Waiamau of Kapa‘a died on Nov. 26, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 58.
Born on O‘ahu April 4, 1950, she was a retired Kukui Grove concession stand attendant.
Survived by father John Nidelross of O‘ahu and many friends.
A celebration of her life will be held from 10 to 11:30 am. Dec. 24, at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
