Now there is only one.
Lihu‘e 1 emerged at the top of a pitcher’s duel with a 1-0 edge for Kalawai in 12 innings at Sunday’s PONY Baseball league at Vidinha Stadium.
Rain may have dampened the fields at Kekaha, but the games continued with Hanapepe rebounding from its 4-2 loss to Kalawai Thursday to edge Kapa‘a 11-8 in the first of a double-header.
In the nightcap, host Kekaha took a 10-7 win over the Lihu‘e 2 team.
With Sunday’s victory, Lihu‘e 1 is the only undefeated team in the league with a 5-0 record and will enjoy a chance to rest when the league takes to the field this Thursday. With its leader status, Lihu‘e 1 sets the stage for Sunday’s showdown with the Hanapepe Cubs at Hanapepe.
The 12-inning heart-breaker pulls Kalawai into a tie for second place with the Hanapepe Cubs, both teams enjoying 3-1 records.
Waimea, who had the bye Sunday, sits in third at 2-2 followed by Kapa‘a (1-3), Kekaha (1-3) and Lihu‘e 2 (0-4) looking for its first win.
That opportunity may bear fruit as Lihu‘e 2 hosts Kapa‘a in the first of three games being played at various fields on the island.
Waimea will take to the field at Kalawai in the second contest and Kekaha will travel to Hanapepe for the third game.
There is no admission to view the games which all start at 4:15 p.m.
