‘Floyd’ Miguel
Florentino “Floyd” Miguel of Puhi died at home on Nov. 12, 2007, at the age of 82.
He was born in Kipu, on Oct. 15, 1925, and was a heavy equipment operator and heavy equipment mechanic with Grove Farm, McBryde Sugar Company and he retired with Pacific Machinery.
He is survived by his wife Genoveva “Geny” Miguel; sons Michael (Kathy) Miguel of California, Gary Miguel of Lihu‘e, Nolan (Pat) Miguel of Honolulu, Dabney (Mona) Miguel of Lihu‘e, Marc Miguel of Lihu‘e; daughter Leona Lara of California; sisters Fortunata Cabamongan of Hilo, Teodora Yasay of Hanama‘ulu, Flora (Alfredo) Espirito of Hanama‘ulu; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Miguel family with arrangements.
Alejandrino “Andy” Ragasa Sr.
Alejandrino “Andy” Ragasa, Sr., of ‘Oma‘o and formerly of Kohala, Hawai‘i, died on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home in ‘Oma‘o at the age of 83.
Born on Jan. 27, 1924, in Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. he was a retired licensed practical nurse at Kohala Hospital and a member of the Kohala Senior Citizens and the Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kohalai.
Preceded in death by his wife Cleofe, daughter Charlene and son Eduardo, he is survived by daughters Patricia (Wilson) Defiesta of Auburn, Wash., Joanne (Fred) Strohlin of Kona, Hawai‘i; Josephine (Romeo) Ramos of Waipahu, O‘ahu; sons Andy Jr. (Debbie) Ragasa of Lihu‘e, Crisanto (Delia) Ragasa of Hilo; sisters Marcelina Racca, Enriqueta Ragasa, and Hipolita Ragasa, all of the Philippines; brother Joaquin (Victoria) Ragasa of Honolulu, O‘ahu; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, Nov. 23, at Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kohala, Hawai‘i. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; wake service at 7 p.m.. Friends may call again on Saturday, Nov. 24, at Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church, visitation from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawi Catholic Church Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.

Elizabeth Chandler
Elizabeth “Kapeka” Mahuiki Chandler, born Aug. 8, 1931, in Ha‘ena, died at the age of 76 on Nov.14, 2007, at Wilcox Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her husband Francis Elias Chandler Sr. and son William Hughes Chandler. A Kamehameha Schools alumna, she is survived by 14 children, Bethan Pualani Fatima (Robert) Baptista, Francis Elias (Rhoda) Chandler Jr., Lawrence La‘amaikahiki (Aimee) Chandler, Kirkland Keith Kuhio (Hilary) Chandler, Aloysius Kahimoku (Nancy) Chandler, Jeffery Tremaine (Linda) Chandler, Germaine Gerrard Chandler, Colan Chad (Coty) Chandler, Belinda Mary Nohealani (Tita) Chandler, Jasmine Kainoa (Skip) Forrest, Silas Paul Chandler, Rachel Keikila‘auwaokanahele (Jack) Correa, Conrad Hokulani (Thomas) Chandler, and Ruth Naomi Chandler. She is also survived by brothers Samson Mahuiki Sr., Bernard (Teresa) Mahuiki Sr., Melvin “Puna” (Gwen) Mahuiki and sisters Marie Inouye, Ruth Mahuiki, sisters-in-law Taxi Mahuiki and Kamala Cockett; 36 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, Kamehameha School alumni brothers and sisters, numerous nieces, nephews and hanai.
Services will be on Friday, Nov. 23, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. William’s Church in Hanalei from 8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. where services will be celebrated at noon. Burial to follow at Kilauea Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Lillian Hayashi
Lillian Fumiko Nakagawa Haya-shi, of Lihu‘e, died on Nov. 3, 2007, at the age of 87.
Born on Kaua‘i on Sept. 27, 1920, she retired from Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by son Jerome (Elaine) Hayashi, grandson Aaron (Elizabeth) Hayashi and great-grandchildren Haley, Alyssa and Summer Rose.
Private services were held at Waimea United Church of Christ. Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Hayashi family with arrangements.
Skye Tyler-Soto
Skye Anuenue Kamalei‘ohu Tyler-Soto, of ‘Ele‘ele, died Nov. 8, 2007. Born in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, he is survived by his father Jimmy Tyler, mother Delissa Soto, grandparents Jeff and Zoe Tyler, Renee Ayau-Tyler, Dennis and Genie Soto, great-grandparents Alva and Shirl Andrew, Mildren Ayan, Virgie Parbo.

Masatoshi Nonaka
Masatoshi “Masa” Nonaka, of Lawa‘i, died at Garden Isle Healthcare on Nov. 15, 2007, at the age of 83.
Born in Mana on Feb. 18, 1924, he was an examiner with the State of Hawai‘i Regulatory Department; also a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by son Warren (Colleen) Nonaka of Lihu‘e; daughters Gwen (David) Bueter of California, Sharon Nonaka of Lawa‘i and grandchildren Ashley, Cara and Ryan; brothers Iwao Nonaka of Hanapepe, Frank (Pearl) Nonaka of Hanapepe and Paul Nonaka of Missouri; sisters Helen (Tokio) Uyeno of Lihu‘e and Clara (Chuck) McCollum of Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion. Inurnment to follow. Casual attire is suggested.

Itsuko Yamamoto
Itsuko Yamamoto, of Kapa‘a, died at Wilcox Hospital on Nov. 10, 2007, at the age of 90. Formerly of Kamuela, she was born in Kohala, Hawai‘i, on Feb. 13, 1917. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by son Ronald (Gina) Yamamoto of Wahiawa; daughters Helen (Dean) Orikasa of ‘Aiea, Bernice (Robert) Hiraoka of Kapa‘a and Carol (Michael) Kukahiko of Pearl City; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Ichisaburo Nakamura of Japan.
Friends may visit with the family at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at Kamuela Hongwanji, 65-1110 Church Road, Kamuela, Hawai‘i; service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Waimea Cemetery on the Big Island. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.

Alma G. Wise
Alma G. Wise died Nov. 3, 2007, after a short, unexpected hospitalization.
She was active in the PTA, Girl Scouts, Red Cross and many other organizations which focus on helping people. She also worked with her husband Larry in his TV sales and service business.
Alma came to Kaua‘i 30 years ago. For many years, she was a volunteer for both hospice and healing touch. She was also a familiar face at Wilcox Hospital. She had a special spot in her heart for animals and was always taking in a stray dog or cat. In recent years, along with several friends she adopted a group of feral cats living at the harbor. She also taught a Sunday school class.
Alma left a legacy of love and peace. She will be remembered for her warm, giving caring heart.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 1, at Koloa Union Church, 3289 Po‘ipu Road, Koloa.
She is survived by son Michael Wise and his wife Luisa and their two children Bill and Christina, daughter Jlaina (Ji) and her huband Rick and their daughters Dana and Tracey, her former husband Larry Wise, dear friend Linda Thomas and many beloved friends.

Peggy Jean Dryden
Peggy Jean Dryden died in Plano, Texas, on Oct. 30, 2007, at the age of 79, after a lengthy illness and a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Santa Maria, Calif., on Nov. 4, 1927, she was a retired medical assistant.
She is survived by sons R. Scott (Stella) Greenleaf of Kapa‘a and John L. (Teresa) Gladwill Jr. of Plano, Texas; brother Delbert M. (Goldie) Dryden of Bakersfield, Calif., and sister Carol A. (Richard) Edie of Santa Maria, Calif.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchidren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Steven Eric Greenleaf.
She loved playing bridge with her friends in Hawai‘i and wanted them to kow how much she loved them. A small private family service will be held in California, where she lived for much of her life. She especially loved Yosemite National Park where she worked in her youth and met her first husband.
