Five-time Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champions of Kaua‘i High School will face the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association White runner-up Roosevelt High School in the first round of the First Hawaiian Bank Division II State Football Championships at 7 p.m. Saturday, at Vidinha Stadium.
Kaua‘i (5-1 KIF, 7-1 overall) won its fifth KIF title three weeks ago when it defeated rival Waimea High School 14-10. Roosevelt (6-3-1) dropped to the No. 2 OIA spot after losing to Kaimuki High School 12-21 Friday night.
Kaimuki received the top spot for the tournament and will play the Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion (either Hawai‘i Prep Academy or Kamehameha — Hawai‘i) in the first round.
The Red Raiders led the KIF in total offense with 1,742 total yards on the season, with 22 touchdowns and 290.3 yards per game.
They led the league in scoring averaging 28 points scored per game.
The Kaua‘i-Roosevelt game will be broadcast live, statewide by OC 16.
All football coaches will be attending a state tournament meeting at 10 a.m. today at Aloha Stadium’s hospitality room.
