KAPA‘A — Kaua‘i High School’s Andrew Renaud ran for two touchdowns, was 8-for-20 with a pick and was named the Player of the Game in last night’s 43-7 win over Kapa‘a High School at the Kapa‘a Complex Stadium.
Both of Renaud’s TDs came in the first quarter, capped off by extra points by Tyrus Ceria-Lux.
Teammate Kelii Ruiz ran for two 14-yard TDs and ran 87 yards in 11 carries. Trent Allianic filled in as quarterback for the majority of the second half and connected with wide receiver Scott Taylor for a touchdown. Allianic then found Gage Gusman late in the game for Kaua‘i’s final touchdown.
For Kapa‘a, Luther Yam intercepted a Renaud pass which set up the plays resulting in a Daniel Lizama TD. Joseph Velasco provided the extra point. Lizama finished the game with 46 yards in 17 carries.
Kaua‘i registered 415 yards total offense compared to Kapa‘a’s 131 yards total offense. For Kaua‘i’s defense, Chad Koga was effective for the Red Raiders with five tackles and a fumble recovery. For Kapa‘a, Pahoa Naihe and Kiliona Leger had five tackles apiece.
Ceria-Lux hit a 30-yard field goal and attempted a 56 yarder.
This was a much-needed win for Kaua‘i (2-1 KIF, 4-2 overall) who fell to Waimea High School (2-0, 5-0) two weeks ago. The Red Raiders get their rematch next week when they host the Menehune at Vidinha Stadium.
Earlier in the day, Kaua‘i’s junior varsity team defeated Kapa‘a 61-0. Wide receiver Anderson Baloran ran for a long, second half kickoff return touchdown, 14 seconds after the whistle blew. Taran Tani scored three touchdowns, one on a fumble recovery.
