Curtis Guy Longakit
Curtis Guy Longakit of Pahala, Hawai‘i, died Nov. 9, 2006, in Honolulu at the age of 52.
Born in Pahala on March 22, 1954, he was a freelance musician.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Hilo United Methodist Church (374 Waianuenue Avenue) from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Alae Cemetery in Hilo. Casual attire is requested.
He is survived by his parents Franco and Andrea Longakit of Pahala; brother Lloyd (Nalani) Longakit of Hilo; sisters: Natlynn “DeeDee” (Gordon) Pacheco of Hilo, Deena (Douglas) Sales of Oregon, and Eunice “Nika” Longakit of Pahala; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Arrangements are being handled by Dodo Mortuary, Inc. in Hilo.
Kay Marie Sandilands
Kay Marie Sandilands of Lihu‘e died on Nov. 10, 2006, at the age of 70.
She was born in Brockway, Pa., on July 26, 1936, and retired as an executive secretary with Bechtel.
She is survived by her brother George (Kay) Morrison of Ohio, friend Janet Blane of Kapa‘a; one niece and one nephew.
Services will be held on the Mainland.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Pamela Jean Cole
Pamela Jean Cole of Kalaheo died at her home on Nov. 15, 2006, at the age of 46.
Born Aug. 16, 1960, in Los Angeles, Calif., she was a devoted mother to daughters Julie (Joe) Hepa, Jennifer Cole-Conner (Kaioli Acoba), Ashley Cole-Conner (Brian Oliver) and son Kalin Cole-Benedict, all of Kaua‘i. She is also survived by parents Calvin and Valerie Cole of Auburn, Calif.; brother David (Christina) Cole of Kaua‘i, sister Debbie Casner of Meridian, Calif., and Michelle (Tom) Buntt of Nevada, Calif.; granddaughters Kahyalei and Kahylie-Rose Hepa and grandson Kahnnah and was anticipating the birth of another grandchild next April. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She had lived on the Westside since 1996 and was involved in numerous fundraising events. A memorial service will be held at the Old Koloa Church on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m.
Mary “Midge” Sedley
Mary Midge Sedley, long-time Kaua‘i resident, died at her home in Koloa on Nov. 9, 206, at the age of 79.
Born in Chicago on July 31, 1927, to Mary and Joseph Gauder who had immigrated to the United states from Hungary with their baby son Peter (born during the voyage), the family later moved to California with baby Mary Theresa Gauder.
Mary, (who preferred to be called “Midge) graduated from San Jose State College and in 1953 married San Francisco radio personality Bruce Sedley. In 1976 when their two daughters had graduated from high school, Midge and Bruce moved to an apartment in the Sunset Kahili in Po‘ipu Beach. They became active in the successful community effort called “S.H.O.K.” (Stop Highrise On Kauai) and Midge continued her interest in the development of the Po‘ipu area.
She became the un-official “hostess” to visiting guests at the Sunset Kahili, many of whom returned yearly for extended stays. She chronicled newsworthy Kaua‘i events in her periodical “The Green Flash” and served several terms on the board of directors of the condominium.
She is survived by her husband Bruce; daughters Linda Anne Sedley of Po‘ipu and Lauren Ellis (Jake) Niceley of Florida and niece Dana Ayala in California.
A memorial service on Kaua‘i is being planned for early 2007.Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
