Peter K. “Pohaku” Nishimitsu, died at Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu on Nov. 7, 2006 at the age of 49.
Born in Lihu‘e on Jan. 20, 1957, he was a much-loved son, brother and uncle, and respected kumu hula.
He established Halau Kanikapahuolohi‘au in Kapa‘a in 1980, was an administrator with the state Department of Education and was keenly interested in Hawaiian civic activities and history. He was last with Koloa Elementary School as the acting principal.
He is survived by his parents Thomas K. and Peggy F. Nishimitsu; sisters Lorna A. Nishimitsu and Holly T. (Gerald W. Alfiler) Nishimitsu; and nephews Matthew K. K. Isoda and Taylor Nishimitsu Alfiler.
His ashes will be scattered by his family, mauka and makai, as he requested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Mortuary-Honolulu.
Stanley Lani Akau
Stanley Lani Akau of Anahola died Nov. 7, 2006 at his home in Anahola at the age of 67.
Born July 10, 1939 on Kaua‘i, he was a retired carpenter foreman.
He is survived by four daughters, Hannah Sherman of Hanama‘ulu, Charlene Akau of Honolulu, Chantel Akau of Anahola and Gwen Akau of Anahola; four sons, Stanley Akau Jr. of Honolulu, Stanford Akau of Hanama‘ulu, Kyle Akau and Kalei Akau, both of Anahola; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Jane t Hepa of Wailua and Cheryl (John) Spock of Maui; two brothers, Milton (Linda) Akau of California and LinFat (Fay) Akau of Las Vegas; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 3771 Kawelo Road in Anahola, with scattering of his ashes to follow at Waipouli, next to Kapa‘a Shores.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
