Kaua‘i High School JV’s Justin Ramos broke open for a 58-yard scamper to ice their 30-14 win over Kapa‘a Friday.
The victory marks an undefeated season for the JV Red Raiders who clinched the KIF title for that division with a victory over Waimea last week.
Earlier, Kaua‘i broke open a 14-14 deadlock as Rysan Sakamoto pulled JV Warrior QB down in the end zone with less than three minutes remaining in the first half.
This gave Kaua‘i a 16-14 advantage going into the locker rooms and following a scoreless third quarter, Ramos broke open to the rightside for the score in the final period.
Gage Gusman iced the victory on their next possession as he worked with QB Bradson Hiranaka on a 15-yard score.
Keala Lovell iced the win with the point-after boot, ending the night with five successful PAT kicks.
Paleku Yasay put Kaua‘i on the books first with an 8-yard charge in the opening quarter only to have Joe Enrique answer for the Warriors early in the second period with a 2-yard score. Ikaika Fuerte did the Kapa‘a point-after kick for the 7-7 deadlock.
The junior Warriors built on a Raider miscue as Palu Tongamoa pounced on a loose ball to set up another score from the Kaua‘i 30-yard line.
That drive was capped two drives later by Caleb Sarsona who broke out for a 16-yard run to the end zone, Fuerte icing the score with the PAT kick.
Kalapaki Ellis returned the favor for Kaua‘i as the free safety recovered a fumble to set up a 35-yard scoring hit from Trent Allianic to Dayne Murata for the 14-14 stalemate.
