KAPA’A — Punahou II came into Friday’s contest against Kapa’a with something to prove, after falling in the waning moments to Kaua’i on Thursday.
The Buffnblu ran past the Warriors, 43-34, behind Arielle Daniels’ 10 points and numerous boards.
Punahou held a slim lead going into the halftime locker room, with the Warriors keeping pace with the ILH school.
However, Daniels and company distanced themselves from the Warriors in the third period, taking the 33-23 lead with just one quarter to go.
Kapa’a staged one last comeback with just under four minutes remaining on the clock.
Rachel Ganir and Kennilyn Nakamura sparked the surge, which decreased the Punahou lead to 37-32.
But the Buffnblu wouldn’t let the Warriors get any closer as the game ended in favor of the blue jerseys, 43-34.
Sarah Aaratani and Aubrie Lau combined for 12 points for Punahou. Nakamura led the Warriors with 10 points and Poe Gantt chipped in with six points.
The KIF girls basketball regular season kicks off on March 28, with Kapa’a hosting the Menehune.
