LIHU‘E — You could tell it was flag football season, as Kaua‘i Police Activities League (K-PAL) director Mark Ozaki roamed the soccer fields at Vidinha Stadium, yesterday as the 2005 K-PAL flag football season kicked off in the hot Lihu‘e sun.
One observant parent, who supplied the goodies for the participants, mentioned that the game is not as important as what type of snacks were offered at the end of the contest.
“I’m here to support my son’s team, but I think I spent more time preparing snacks than watching the game,” the colorful mom added.
But even if it seemed that the after the game meal was as important as the game, you still couldn’t tell which team was ahead at the end of the contest.
The players marched down the field and utilitzed all four downs at times, but for them, just being out there was satisfying enough.
Teams and cheerleaders that competed yesterday included, Lihu‘e, Waimea, Kapa‘a, Koloa, Anahola, and Kilauea in three divisions: cubs, bobcats, and wildcats.
On Saturday, June 11, the season resumes at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields, starting at 8 a.m.
Then on June 18, the flag football action switches to Hanapepe Stadium and on June 25, Vidinha Stadium will again play host to the K-PAL sponsored event.
