LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a High School boys varsity soccer team came close to winning its first match of the season, but the Menehune were able to avoid their first loss of the season with a 1-1 tie yesterday at Vidinha Stadium.
Masai Bell scored Kapa‘a’s lone goal and David Honma came up with the only score for Waimea.
With the tie, Waimea now sits atop the KIF boys varsity soccer standings with a 1-0-1 (4 points) record.
Kaua‘i High School remains in second-place with a 1-1 (3 points) mark.
Meanwhile, Kapa‘a High School has yet to win a game so far this season, with an 0-1-1 (1 point) record.
In girls varsity action, Kapa‘a got its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Waimea.
Liana Kakalia and Tiana Kunioka punched in one goal a piece for the Warriors.
Kaua‘i High School is on top of the girls varsity standings with a perfect 2-0 (6 points) showing.
Kapa‘a is in the second slot with a 1-1 (3 points) record.
The Menehune round out the standings and are still searching for their first win of the young season. Waimea is 0-2 (0 points).
The Warriors claimed both JV games by a combined margin of 8-1.
