PUHI — Kaua‘i’s Chelsea Smith-Wishard (22:03, 1st) outpaced Waimea’s Rachel Martin (22:32, 2nd) and Kapa‘a’s Alexandra Pond (22:46, 3rd) to clinch her second straight KIF win. The same was said in the boys contest, as Waimea’s Scott Martin (18:15, 1st)
PUHI — Kaua‘i’s Chelsea Smith-Wishard (22:03, 1st) outpaced Waimea’s Rachel Martin (22:32, 2nd) and Kapa‘a’s Alexandra Pond (22:46, 3rd) to clinch her second straight KIF win. The same was said in the boys contest, as Waimea’s Scott Martin (18:15, 1st) beat out Kaua‘i’s Chad Naganuma (19:15, 2nd) and fellow Menehune Nathan Martin (19:51, 3rd). The Kapa‘a High School girls (37 points) brought home the first-place team crown, thanks to Pond, Erin Pickett (24:35, 6th), Liana Nakazawa (24:40, 7th), and Kieren Pond (25:28, 9th). Although Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i finished with the same total of points, the sixth finisher for both teams was the tie-breaker, as Kapa‘a’s Jennifer Rodello (26:33,14th) edged Kaua‘i’s Amanda Mayer (26:42, 15th).
Kaua‘i High School (37 points) grabbed second-place, with help from Smith-Wishard, Kassy Morishige (23:08, 5th), and Caitlin Towner (24:56, 8th).
Waimea’s 70 points was good enough for third-place, as Martin, Cayla Kitabayashi (26:19, 11th), and Chantelle Briones (28:11, 18th). Kula’s Gillian Pickett finished in fourth-place (23:02) and Jasmine Blaine (29:22) put up the top time for Island School. The Kaua‘i boys (39) swapped spots with Island School in this meet, as the Voyagers (49) finished 10 points behind the Red Raiders this time, after finishing 10 points ahead of Kaua‘i in the first meet. Kaua‘i’s Naganuma, Kiley Momohara (19:57, 4th), Chad Nonaka (22:03, 7th), and Charlie Kato (22:18, 12th) led the Red Raider charge. Island School’s Chris Marsh (20:25, 5th), Alan Hoffman (21:47, 6th), and Fabio Villa (22:16, 10th) paced the Voyagers. Waimea (71) took third-place, thanks to the Martins and Corey Sakahashi (23:26, 21st) and Kapa‘a finished in fourth with Adam Kerlin (23:53, 23rd) and Mason Ishiki (23:57, 24th) leading the way. Kula’s top runners included Forest Freedom (22:08, 8th), Lucas Frailey (22:14, 9th), and Uriah Ranney (22:17, 11th). Check out the top 20 finishers of both of the meets in the scoreboard on page B2.
