Kaua‘i fans of University of Hawai‘i football had an opportunity to talk-story with some of the Warrior coach staff as well as UH atletic director Herman Frazier Saturday as Na Koa hosted their annual fund-raising golf tournament at the Puakea Golf Course.
About 75 golfers, many of whom were business and community leaders, took part in the festivities and competition.
The goal of the tournament was to raise not only funds, but also awareness of the Warrior program and the Na Koa booster program, and to this end, two special shirt designs were unveiled by Ed Fountain.
The shirts were available for golfers to purchase, and for the non-golfers, it was announced that these shirts will be available exclusively at Mark’s Place in the Puhi Industrial Park following the tournament.
Designs for the shirts are also exclusive to Kaua‘i.
On hand for the golfing in addition to Frazier were members of the UH football coaching staff including assistant athletic director Tom Sadler, Wes Swann, Ron Lee, Vance Singletary, and Dan Morrison.
Head coach June Jones had a previous engagement and missed the shotgun start, but was expected to make an appearance later in the tournament that featured a special format followed by a million dollar hole-in-one contest.
Host for the day’s event was J Robertson with Ed Fountain’s mom Joyce and sister Wanda Fountain-Moa doing the shirt distribution table.
Puakea Golf Course new director of golf Paul Ito gave the sign and at promptly 8 a.m., Frazier took the lead as the caravan of golf carts rolled out.
