Lum-Tucker earns all-conference honors
Former Kaua‘i High School standout, Brad Lum-Tucker, who attends the University of Idaho was named to the Big West Academic All-Conference team.
Lum-Tucker is a sports science major and also earned all-conference second-team honors in singles. He finished the year 17-9, playing primarily at the number one spot.
The former Red Raider, teamed with Chris Faulman to earn all-conference honorable mention for doubles. The duo finished the year with a record of 14-10 at the number one doubles spot.
Alfiler, King, and Ponte race away with wins
GIRA races continued on June 6. In the Destination Autoworks Pro ET class, Tony King took 1st place in his Plymouth Duster “Goin’ Bananns” sponsored by Waimea Snack Shop, Manny’s Auto Repair, and Unlimited Construction at a top speed of 111.10 mph, dialing in at 10.96 running 11.018. 2nd place went to Chris Loew in his Speedie Lube, Pennzoil sponsored 1969 Chevelle. With a reaction time of .518 on a dial-in time of 12.25 running a 12.564 at 105.39 mph. 3rd place went to Ben Caliari in his 1970 Chevy Nova sponsored by Caliari Roofing.
In the King Auto Center Supper Street class, 1st place went to Jayson Alfiler in his 1985 Toyota MR2, sponsored by G-Sport, with a reaction time of .538 on a dial-in of 12.85 running a 12.975. 2nd place went to Ron Valencia in his Destination Autoworks sponsored 1970 Dodge Charger, dailing in a 13.50 running at 13.759.
The ladies took over in the Street class finals as Danielle Ponte took 1st place in her 2003 Hyundai Tibiron sponsored by Ray’s Cycle Sales, dialing in a 15.97, running a 16.019. 2nd place went to My Paden in her 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, sponsored by Speedie Lube, dialing in a 15.11, running a 15.312. Ashley Cacabelos topped the Bike class on his Honda CBR 600. The next races will be held July 2-3, Friday & Saturday night with the gates opening at noon. Track clean-up will be Sunday June 27.
Wimbledon rains out, play continues today
WIMBLEDON, England — With rain falling into early evening Wednesday, an entire day’s action was washed out at Wimbledon for the first time since 1999. That means U.S. Open champion Andy Roddick’s first-round match halted Tuesday won’t resume until Thursday, and French Open finalist Guillermo Coria’s opener will stretch into its fourth day.
Paniolo Challenge this weekend
This year’s Paniolo Challenge is set for June 27 at the Old Waimea Dairy site. Sign-in is from 9-10 a.m., start time is 10:30 a.m. Entry fee is $5.00 per entry per event and all entry fees will be awarded to the pot.
