Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel responded to a house fire around 8 p.m. Monday on ‘Inia Street in Kapa‘a, dousing the blaze quickly, said Cyndi Mei Ozaki, county public information officer.
According to a neighbor, the fire at the house, located behind the Tennrikyo church, appeared to be contained to one room in the home. He estimated KFD put down the flames in 15 minutes from their arrival.
The fire was actually in the rear-most room of the home, and burned through the picture window and jalousies, also burning the shed in the back, the neighbor said.
There is also a full propane gas tank next to the burned room, but the tank was full and not as easy to ignite or explode, he added.
According to the neighbor, it looked from the outside that the fire was contained mostly to that one room, and had started burning into the next room.
Some vinyl siding on a neighboring house melted by the heat, he added.
Firefighters from the Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e stations responded, Ozaki said.
The estimated amount of damage and the cause of the blaze are unknown, but KFD is investigating, she added.
