Robert Ozaki
Robert Toshiro Ozaki of Hanapepe, Kauai, died at Rochester, Minnesota on May 5, 2002, at the age of 87.
Born in Hanapepe, Kauai on May 19, 1914, he was the founder of Robert’s and Robert’s Jewelry.
He is survived by his wife, Yukie Ueoka Ozaki of Hanapepe, Kauai; son, Milton Robert Ozaki of Kalaheo, Kauai; daughters, Marian Yukie Conroy and Joyce Toshie Tomonari both of Honolulu, O’ahu; three grandchildren; brother, George Goro Ozaki of Lihue, Kauai; two sisters, Dorothy Shizue Matsushige of Lihu’e, Kaua’i and Florence Fujiko Nakayama of Hanapepe, Kauai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service officiated by Pastor Mitchell Young will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ.
Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
Katherine Matsuda
Katherine Komae Matsuda of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 5, 2002 at the age of 75.
Born in Lihu’e, Kaua’i on April 21, 1927, she was a retired Office Mgr., with Kauai Medical Group.
She is survived by her husband, Takeshi Matsuda of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; two sons, Steven (June) Matsuda of Lihu’e, Kaua’i and Randall Matsuda of Hilo, Hawai’i; daughter, Lorna (Claude) Hebaru of Mililani, O’ahu; brother, Frankie (May) Fujii of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; four sisters, Tamaye Fujii of Lihu’e, Yoshie (Ted) Fujimura of O’ahu, Sue Fujii of O’ahu and Arlene Fujii of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service officiated by Rev. Yukiko Motoyoshi has been scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2002 at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission. Casual attire is suggested.

Helen Soares
Helen Soares of Waimea, Kauai, died on May 6, 2002 at her residence in Waimea, at the age of 74.
Born on Aug. 30, 1927, in ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i, she was a kitchen worker for Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband: Harry Soares of Kalaheo; three sons: Wayne “Melvin” (Rene) Soares of O’ahu; Harry Soares of Lihue; Jesse (Pernala) Soares of Kalaheo; two daughters: Stephanie Silva of Kalaheo; Brenda Soares of Kalaheo; two sisters: Josephine Ching of O’ahu; Dorothy Togisala of Oma’o; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 13, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Keahi. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

Victoria Rios
Victoria Rios of Kalihi, died on May 1, 2002 in Kalihi, at the age of 93.
Born in Koloa, Kaua’i. She was known by many as Frank P. Rios’ (deceased) wife.
She is survived by son James Ortiz; Sisters: Rosenda Santiago of Pahoa and Alice Dukes; caregiver and niece, Priscilla Helenihi. 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.
Services were held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Arrangements by Ordenstein’s Hawaiian Memorial Park.
Antone Parraga
Antone Parraga Jr. of Kekaha, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 5, 2002, at the age of 70.
Born in Makaweli, Kauai on Dec. 25, 1932, he was a Maintenance Supervisor with Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his companion, Carnation Harris, and her children, Raynette (Stuart) Saito of O’ahu, Shane Buesil, Anthony “Ants” (Mel Sukisaki) Harris and Shawn “Kimo” (Jessica Natividad) Parraga, all of Kekaha; Betty B. Parraga and her children: Antonette Parraga of Kalaheo, Tina (Larry) Yadao of Waimea, Anthony “Bully”(Deborah) Parraga of Kekaha, Trinette (Wesley) Kaui of Wailua and Elise (Corey) Silva of Kalaheo; 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Isabel “Bella” (John) Martin of O’ahu and Emily Silva of Kalaheo.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the St. Theresa Catholic Church-Kekaha; service officiated by Father Keahi will begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

Huan Cheng of Kekaha, Kaua’i, died April 26, 2002, at the age of 70.
Born in China on Aug. 23, 1931, he is survived by his wife, Bonifacia; son, Rex Cheng; two granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, at Borthwick Mortuary-Honolulu with service at 10 a.m. Inurnment to be held on Friday, May 10 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Ruth Kondo
Ruth Yaeno Kanekuni Kondo of Kapa’a, Kauai, died April 30, 2002, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 91.
Born Oct. 26, 1910 in Mana, Kauai, to Tetsutaro Kanekuni and Shizu Shimahara Kanekuni.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, parents, daughter Nancy (Masao) Shimonishi and sons, David and George, Jr.
She is survived by daughters, Gladys (Fred) Takasaki, Eleanor Kondo (W. Dale, deceased) Ream, Lillian Kamimura and Miriam (Mel) Fujishige; brothers: Seichi (Teiko), Harry (Amy), Kyoichi (Dona), Jack (Kime), Rokuichi (Hazel) and sister, Stella (Yoshiharu) Shimatsu; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held May 10, in Kapa’a, Kaua’i, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Kapaa First Ward. Friends may call from 9 -11 a.m. prior to services. Interment will take place at the Kapaa Japanese Cemetery.
