Bernice Arruda Braun of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died Nov. 25, 2001, at her home at the age of 71.
A retired hostess with Kaua’i Sands and also the Wailua Marina, she was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Kealia, Kaua’i.
Preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Braun and her son, Kurt L. Braun; she is survived by one son: Stuart A. (Brenda) Braun of Wailua; four sisters: Jenny Rapozo of Kapa’a, Helen (Alfunso) Fial of California, Lydia Rodrigues of Lihu’e, and Florance Carvalho of Oregon; three brothers: Tony Arruda of Kapahi, Henry (Alice) Arruda of Lihu’e, and John Arruda of California; three granddaughters: Yvette (Louie) Maness, and Danielle (Stevie) Bishop, both of California, and Delcey L. Braun of Kalaheo; one grandson: Aaron K. Braun of Wailua; three great grandchildren: Kyla, Kurt and Lilianna.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 6, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa’a, from 9 a.m. Services to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Coyle. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens in Lihu’e.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.

Alice Mukai
Alice Mikiko Mukai of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 1, 2001, at the age of 87.
Born in Lihu’e, Kaua’i on Feb. 9, 1914, she retired at Wailua Golf Course.
She is survived by a brother, Harold (Myra) Nishimoto of Wailua Houselots, Kaua’i and sisters, Ayako Elise Ho and Ruth Nishimoto both of Honolulu, Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Kapa’a Hongwanji Mission; service at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Basilisa Cayaban
Basilisa Cayaban of ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i, died at home on Dec. 2, 2001 at the age of 92.
Born in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Jan. 7, 1909, she was a Homemaker.
She is survived by husband, Fermin; son, Marcelo (Loreta) Cayaban of ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; with burial to follow at the Hanapepe County cemetery. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
