Fred Thronas
Fred N. Thronas of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died at his home on Nov. 19, 2001, at the age of 73.
Born in Papa’a, Kaua’i, on June 1, 1928, he was a lifelong rancher who also worked as the coordinator for Kaua’i Electric until his retirement in 1983.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean “Jeannie” Thronas; two sons, Fred (Mary) Thronas Jr. of Chamita, New Mexico and Daryl (Patrice) Thronas of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; three daughters, Debra “Debbie” (Neal) Lacaden, Sharon (Winky) Inanod and Crystal (John IV) Contrades, all of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; two brothers: Olaf Thronas of Lawai, Kaua’i, and Henry (Renee) Thronas of Wailua, Kaua’i; three sisters: Agnes Thronas of Waikiki, O’ahu, Irene Strong of Calabassas, Calif. and Betty LaCoe of San Jose, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Olaf and Irene Thronas, brothers Stanley Thronas, Samuel “Sammy” Thronas and James “Jimmy” Kaneakua.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, Nov. 29, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary in Koloa beginning at 8 a.m.
Services over his cremains officiated by his son, Fred Thronas Jr., will be celebrated at noon and co-officiated by a representative of the Koolau Huiia Protestant Church.
Private scattering of ashes will be at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Violet Hughes
Violet Kimokeo Hughes, 87, of Honolulu, a retired teacher, died Nov. 18, 2001, at home in Honolulu. Born Jan. 20, 1914, in Honolulu, she was a grade school teacher and taught at Kekaha Elementary joining the kupuna program after retirement. She also participated as a kupuna in the Kamehameha Schools Exploration Program.
She is survived by son Thomas (Barbara) of Hilo, daughters Violet Hughes of San Francisco, Claire Hughes of Honolulu four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Kamehameha Schools Bishop Memorial Chapel. Visitation after 4 p.m. Aloha attire. No flowers. Private internment. Arrangements are being handled by Hosoi Garden Mortuary.
Delbert Goo
Delbert Chun-Yin Goo of Kilauea, died Nov. 22, 2001, at the age of 75.
A farmer, he was born in Lihu’e, HI.
He is survived by his wife: Geraldine Goo; daughters: Geary (Marvin) Masada, Amie (Lawrence) Chandler, and Michi (Randy) Smith and Lawra K. Goo; sisters: Carolyn Alboa and Lynette Lee; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Christ Church of Kilauea at 10 a.m. Scattering of the cremains will be private.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
