Juan Pugal Guadiz
Juan Pugal Guadiz of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at his residence in Lihu’e, on Oct. 9, 2001, at the age of 97.
Born in the Philippines on May 2, 1904, he was a laborer.
He is survived by his wife: Gertrudes Soriano Guadiz of Lihu’e; three sons: Charles (Chrissy) Guadiz and Tyrone (Dorothy) Guadiz of Lihu’e, Robert (Linda) Guadiz of Washington; one daughter: Billie Homer of Oahu; two sisters: Eustaqiua Guadiz and Leonora Reasonda both of the Philippines, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Borthwick Kaua’i Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Visitation are again on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kapaia at 9 a.m. and mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. By Father Paul. Burial at the Church Cemetery in Kapaia. Casual attire is suggested.

Grant Ildefonso
Grant Joseph Ildefonso of ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i, died on Oct. 18, 2001 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
An infant born Oct. 18, 2001, he is survived by his Parents: Bony & Rosalie Ildefonso of ‘Ele’ele; Paternal Grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Amor Ildefonso of Waipahu; Maternal Grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Pagarigan of Ewa Beach; Paternal Great Grandma: Mrs. Conrado Tomas of Waipahu; Paternal Great Grandpa: Mr. Florentino Tomas of Waipahu; Great-Great Maternal Great Grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Ponciano Tomas of Waipahu; Great-Great Maternal Grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Ambrocio Pagarigan of the Philippines.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Old Koloa Church from 6 p.m. where services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Burial on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Mililani Cemetery in Oahu at 12:30 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Carl Kakuda
Carl Nobuo Kakuda of Waimea, Kaua’i, died at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital, on Oct. 18, 2001 at the age of 86.
Born in Waimea, Kaua’i, on Oct. 9, 1915, he was a Wholesaler with Carl Distributors.
He is survived by his wife: Fujiko Kakuda of Waimea, Kaua’i; three sons: Alwyn (Shirley) Kakuda of Hanapepe, Kaua’i; Burt (Yvonne) Kakuda of Johnson Island; Glenn (Gail) Kakuda of Honolulu, Oahu; daughter: Lorna (Clifford) Ching of Mililani, Oahu; three sisters: Fumiko Muraoka of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; Evelyn (Richard) Furushima of Koloa, Kaua’i; Leatrice Kimura of Honolulu, Oahu; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Nathan Valdez
Nathan Paul Valdez of Waipahu, died on Oct. 14, 2001 at the age of 38.
Born in Honolulu, he is survived by his mother: Bessie J. Hendrick; brothers: Jonathan and Clayton Silva, William and Michael Lee, Wendel and Frank Valdez; sisters: Verna Pagnotta, Yolanda Lee and Celeste Gabriel.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 8:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waipahu. Mass at 9:30 a.m.
