Kelly “Mr. Kelly” Donald Auerbach of San Jose California (formerly of Kauai), died June 19, 2001 at the age of 83.
Born March 17, 1918, He was known in the Business Community as “Mr. Kelly”. He moved to Kaua’i in 1957 as manager of Gaspro. Later he became manager of Kaman Industrial Technologies, Corp. where he worked closely with the sugar plantations providing industrial chain and bearings necessary to operate the factories. He held his position until his retirement in 1982. He was a long time member of the Rotary Club of West Kauai.
He is survived by two daughters: Dagmar (William) Bills of California; Elodie (Manuel) Moniz, Jr. of Kalaheo; three grandchildren: Kellene (Clyde) Mukai of Hanapepe; Lorene (Rodney) Sasil of Eleele; Kelly (Tifanie) Bills of Texas, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 29, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 4 p.m. Services to be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Inurnment of his cremated cremains will be at Oahu Cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30. Family requests floral arrangements be omitted, but leis are excepted.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangement are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Lewis Kight
Lewis Malcolm Kight, 91 of Westernport, died, Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital.
A frequent visitor to Kauai, he was born on September 8, 1909, in Barnum, W. Va., he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Kight loved his times at Deep Creek Lake, especially when he could share that time with others. He most enjoyed treating children to adventures on the water and taught many to ski. He enjoyed his many trips to Hawaii, where his son married and made his home, and the beautiful family with whom Mr. and Mrs. Kight have been so blessed.
He is survived by his wife: Maxine (Hull) Kight; a son, Lewis (Sharolyn “Shar”) Malcolm Kight Jr. of Kauai, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several special nieces, nephews.
The family request memorials to be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church’s Children Department or Church Choir or the American Cancer Society.
Services were held on Saturday, June 2, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, West Virginia.
Mario Pagatpatan
Mario Pagatpatan of Lihu’e, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 17, 2001 at the age of 51.
Born in Honolulu, Oahu, on February 1, 1950, he was a Supervisor with Rego Trucking.
He is survived by his best friend Ligia Baylon and Companion Teresa Johnson; his parents Jorge & Mercedes Pagatpatan of Waipahu, Oahu; three brothers George Pagatpatan of Waipahu, Oahu; Ricardo (Debbie) Pagatpatan of Pearl City; Melvin Pagatpatan of Waipahu; two sisters: Darnella (Raymond) Baldovi of Waipahu; Teresa (Douglas) Grace of Waipahu, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shigeto Takayama
Shigeto Takayama, of Lawa’i, Kauai, died on June 19, 2001, at the age of 72.
Born in Makaweli, Kauai, June 2, 1929. He was a Retired Insurance Adjuster for AIG and a Security Guard for Wachenhut Security Services.
He is survived by his wife: Sachiko; son: Shandon; daughter: Eldene Dang; one brother: Patrick. 1 grandson.
Services were private. Arrangements by Ultimate Cremation Services of Hawaii.
Richard McLaughlin
Richard “Mac” McLaughlin of Oma’o passed away in his family home among family and friends on June 21, 2001. Born on August 9, 1938, he was 62.
A Vietnam veteran, “Mac” retired from the United States Navy with 20 years of service. He was employed at Po’ipu Water for 21 years, then held his own business M&E Trucking for the last 10 years.
He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization and also served as its Commander. He enjoyed working for community projects and fundraisers.
Mac is survived by his wife, Elaine McLaughlin, two sons: William (Marlene) McLaughlin and Mark McLaughlin and two granddaughters.
A memorial service to celebrate Mac’s life will be announced later.
