Things were clicking for East Kaua’i in Week 6 of the Kaua’i Senior Citizen Softball League’s second round.
At Wailua Field last Saturday, East Kaua’i walloped Kawaihau 29-5. East Kaua’i batters pounded Kawaihau pitcher Teddy Daligdig for 28 hits. Meanwhile, East Kaua’i’s Walter Silva yielded just seven in picking up the win.
Alex Youn led the Kaua’i bats with two home runs on four hits. Ed Bales also had a home run as part of his four hits.
Other East Kaua’i players with four hits were: Joe Pendergest, John Garcia and Ronnie Holt. Ray Sam Fong and Les Kubo each banged solo homers. No Kawaihau batter had more than one hit.
The Rookies, the league’s top team, moved to 6-0 in the second round with an easy 14-5 victory over the K-Makules. Archie Fontanilla picked up his sixth win of the round as he handed Jay Acoba his first loss.
Walter Souza knocked two home runs for the Rookies on three hits. Nellie Mendonca also had a homer on three hits, and Hank Nishikawa had a home run on two hits.
The Remata brothers led the K-Makules with “Lefty” going 3-for-3 and Doric picking up two home runs on two hits. John Tabanair also banged a couple of hits.
In last Saturday’s thriller, the Lihu’e A’s put a dent in West Kaua’i’s drive to keep pace with the Rookies. The A’s won 8-6, dropping West Kaua’i to 4-2 on the season.
Buster Matsumura went the distance to grab his first win of the second round. Joe Silva was dealt the loss, dropping to 3-2.
Lihu’e’s Dwight Fuji had a home run on three hits. Glen Akina got three hits and Shige Oshiro had a solo home run for the A’s.
For West Kaua’i, Frank Bukoski got a homer, and Brudda Rittmiester was the team’s only batter with two hits.
