Visitation and funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Mass at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Kaua’i Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe. Celebration gathering at the Hanapepe Neighborhood Center following burial.
Vice President of Midway Limited and a Sales Executive with 101 Things To Do based on Kaua’i, Bertrand’s career in sales and marketing included positions such as director of sales and marketing for Aloha Airlines, San Francisco regional manager for Avis Rent-A-Car, purser & hotel manager for Matson Navigation Company and vice president for Hawaii Express Airlines. He was owner of Bertrand and Associates, airline and travel industry consultants in Menlo Park, Calif., managing director of Hawaii/82, a multi-million dollar tourism promotion program sponsored by the State of Hawaii, and, from 1988-1989 general manager of local radio station FM-97. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and was commander of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club, a Kaua’i Senior Citizens, Inc. board member, private pilot and avid golfer.
Born Jan. 12, 1934, Bertrand is survived by his twin brother John, his mother, Marie Rapozo Bertrand, three children and one grandchild. He was born in Ahukini, Kaua’i. His late father, Capt. Jack Bertrand, was vice president and manager of Kaua’i Consolidated Terminal and Ahukini Harbor master and pilot. Bertrand and his ex-wife Marie Drew Bertrand, are the parents of three children: William Drew Bertrand, 37, of Menlo Park, Calif.; Suzanne Bucknel, 36, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and John William Bertrand II, 31, of Honolulu. He also is survived by one grandchild.

Pearl Kaohelaulii
Pearl “Momi” Kaohelaulii, of Makaweli, Kaua’i died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 30, 2000, at the age of 54. Born in Ni’ihau on Aug. 16, 1946, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by: her husband: Independence “Hoaonalani” Kaohelaulii of Makaweli, Kaua’i; two daughters: Pearl “Tita” Kaohelaulii and Angel-Lynn Kaohelaulii, both of Makaweli, Kaua’i; one hanai son: Lefty (Kahelelani) Kanahele of Kekaha, Kaua’i; two grandchildren; three brothers: Keola Niau and Sonny Niau, both of Kekaha, Kaua’i, and Lanakila Niau of Hilo, Hawaii; four sisters: Georgianna (Charles Sr.) Haluapo of Washington, Emalia (Pat) Licayan of Kekaha, Kaua’i, Lolena (Niki) Nicolas of Honolulu, Oahu, and Rose (Levi) Mawae of Kekaha, Kaua’i; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service to begin at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Akira Kugiya
Akira “Toe” “Kugi” Kugiya of Honolulu, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Kuakini Medical Center at the age of 94. Born in Kipahulu, Maui, on Dec. 31, 1906, he was a retired adjustor for Pacific Insurance Co.
He is survived by his wife Mabel Kugiya; son Barry (Wanda) Kugiya; daughters, Carolyn (Clinton) Sumida, Gail (Calvin) Murashige of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, and Wendy Sanemitsu, four grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. The family suggests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

Cynthia Ann Roscoe
Cynthia Ann Roscoe, of Glenwood, HI and formerly of Kaua’i, died Jan. 2, 2001, at her home at the age of 42. She was born July 12, 1958, in Ramona, Calif.

Kathlean Mary May
Kathlean Mary May of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died on Jan. 1, 2001 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 67. Born in Oklahoma, on January 2, 1933, she was a waitress for the Hotel Industry.
She is survived by her daughters: Sherry (Larry) Barnett of Kapa’a; Terry (Jefferey) Scott of California, one sister: Marlene Wilson of California; Companion: Lynn Lorenz of California; three granddaughters: Jackie (Gavin) Griswald of California; April Chapple of California; Heather Scott of California; one grandson: Eric Scott of California.
Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary.
Herbert Callejo Sr.
Herbert L. Callejo Sr. of McBryde Camp, Kauai, died in Ruidoso, New Mexico on Dec. 28, 1999, at the age of 64. Born Jan. 5, 1935, in Lawai, he was a retired heavy equipment operator with McBryde Sugar Plantation and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Callejo, and hisdaughter, Charmaine Callejo.
He is survived by his wife: Gloria Callejo of McBryde Camp; four sons: Herbert L. Callejo Jr. of McBryde Camp, Jason Callejo of McBryde Camp, Jaime (Lorena) Callejo of Simi Valley, Calif., and James (Sera) Callejo of Kalaheo; one daughter: Chevelle (John) Franco of Big Spring, Tex., nine grandchildren; his mother: Mary Rodrigues of Koloa; mother-in-law: Helen Dotimas of ‘Ele’ele; three brothers: Benny (Juanita) Callejo of ‘Ele’ele, John (Violet) Taboniar of Kekaha and Joseph (Sharon) Taboniar of McBryde; five sisters: Ruby (Daniel) Rivera of McBryde, Joanna Castillo of Waimea, Julita (Fred) Patricio of Kekaha, Salina (Vincent) Sonoda of Honolulu, Betsy (Edwin) Shinogawa of Brydeswood, Kalaheo.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kalaheo Ward. Visitation will be at 8 a.m. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.
