Raymond Douglas Souza of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died Dec. 27, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. An auditor for the City and County of Kaua’i, he also served as a county supervisor and councilman for many years.
He is survived by three sons: Ainsley K. (Wendy) Waiwaiole of Lihu’e, Earl (Virgie) Waiwaiole of Wailua Homesteads and Deharn K. Waiwaiole of Kapa’a; one hanai daughter: Tamarie (Fred) Kaholi of Oahu; one sister: Olivia Kanai; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 9, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapa’a, from 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Dan. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Gregorio Pedronan
Gregorio “Gorio” Pedronan, of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 29, 2000, at the age of 101. Born in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Sept. 5, 1899, he was a retired Laborer with Rice Farm.
He is survived by: three sons: Nicomedes Pedronan and Marcello (Adele) Pedronan, both of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, and Flor (Rose) Pedronan of Aiea, Oahu; three daughters: Nieves (Tomas) Soriano and Helen Pedronan, both of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, and Susan (Alfred) Andrade of Lawai, Kaua’i; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Pedro Pedronan of Seattle, WA; two sisters: Olympia Galiciano and Eulalia Malagday, both of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Mass officiated by Father Paul will begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Kaua’i Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Ariston Martinez
Ariston Arcelbal Martinez of Kilauea, Kaua’i, died Dec. 28, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 86. A welder for the sugar industry with Kilauea Sugar, he was born Feb. 17, 1914, in the Philippines.
He is survived by one daughter: Yolanda (Ben) Rivera of Kilauea; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one sister: Loretta Tactay of O’ahu and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church in Kilauea from 9 a.m. Services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Dan. Casual attire is suggested.

Joseph Kahaunaele Sr.
Joseph Moluhi Kahaunaele, Sr. of Kapa’a, died Dec. 26, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 69. Born Nov. 3, 1931, in Honolulu, HI, he was a luggage transfer agent for the visitor industry and also served in the U.S. Marines. Joe loved the ocean, baseball, watching his grandchildren’s games, singing, and playing music for family and friends.
He is survived by two sons: Joseph Kahaunaele, Jr. and Jonathan (Lorna Contrades) Kahaunaele, both of Kapa’a; two daughters: Pamela Campos (Sonny) Domingo of Maui and Corina (Karl) Kimura of Kilauea; seven grandchildren; the mother of his children, Flora (Paul Miyamoto) Kahaunaele; two brothers: David K. K. Kahaunaele of Anahola and Larry Kahaunaele of Kapa’a; four sisters: Elizabeth “Kelly” (Colonel) Harbottle of O’ahu, Dora Swain of Anahola, Mervlyn “Alapai” Sperry of Colorado, Henrietta Kailimai of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 5, at the Kaua’i Veterans Hall in Lihu’e from 11 a.m. with services to be celebrated at 3 p.m. Scattering of ashes will be at Smith’s (Bay) Beach in Anahola on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Helen Vidinha
Helen Correa Vidinha of Kalaheo, died Dec. 29, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. A homemaker, she was born July 21, 1916, in Puhi, Kaua’i.
She is survived by one son: Thomas (Carol) Vidinha of Kalaheo; two daughters: Joyce (Henry) Abreu and Lydia (Richard) Carveiro, both of Kalaheo; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; four sisters: Julia Ferreira and Roselina Duarte, both of Kalaheo; Gloria Pereira of Lihu’e and Emily Lopes of California; four sisters-in-law: Sandra Sabala, Bella Pavao, Emily Vidinha, and Virginia Vidinha; three brothers-in-law: John Vidinha, Ernest Vidinha, and Serafin Octavio.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 4, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo from 1 p.m. with services to be celebrated at 3 p.m. by Father Keahi. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Sadao Tanabe
Sadao Tanabe, of Lihue, Kauai, died at his home on Dec. 27, 1999, at the age of 99. Born in Koloa, Kauai on Sept. 9, 1900, he was a retired Purchasing Agent with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by: his wife: Betty Tanabe of Lihue, Kauai; three sisters: Namiko (Mice) Yoshida of Kapaa, Kauai, Sueko Yamasaki of Lihue, Kauai, and Tsutayo Saito of Lihue, Kauai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 8, 2000 at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission; service officiated by Rev. Yukiko Motoyoshi will begin at 10 a.m. followed by interment at the Lihue Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Rosalio “Sayong” J. Begonia of Kekaha died at his home on Dec. 30, 1999, at the age of 87. Born in Santa Ilocos Sur, Philippine Islands on Aug. 30, 1912, he was a retired construction laborer with David Chang Construction Company.
He is survived by his wife: Melba Begonia of Kekaha; one son: Romel Begonia of Kekaha; four daughters: Delilah Verzosa of Hanapepe, Pylman (Vito) Parado Jr. of San Jose, Calif., Liberty (Ben) Camat of Newark, Calif., and Sonita (Roger) DelaCruz of Kekaha; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister: Damiana Begonia of Santa Ilocos Sur, Philippine Islands.
Funeral services are scheduled for Jan. 6, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., with a funeral Mass officiated by Father Alex at 3 p.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
