LIHUE — Conrad Murashige and Shioi Construction were named the Tetsuro “Rosy” Maeda Member of the Year award recipients by the Contractors Association of Kauai during the CAK’s 61st annual year-end meeting held Nov. 29 at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
Speaking before an audience of 200 people, Murashige was lauded for his efforts at chairing the first-ever Kauai Construction Career Day where more than 400 of Kauai’s public school students had an opportunity for hands-on meetings with the construction industry at the Kauai Community College campus in September.
Additionally, the late Kenneth Shioi’s family established a scholarship program administered by the CAK for students attending trades programs at KCC, or in a construction trades related professional program.
Shioi Construction also has a CAK category award administered by the CAK for Contractor of the Year.
That award was presented to Richard Wa‘alani Sr. of Wa‘alani Enterprises for his support of the construction industry, the community, and youth athletic programs.
The Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, and Service Rentals &Supplies shared in the Wayne E. Ellis Associate Member of the Year award.
Each of the recipient companies were supportive of the Kauai Construction Career Day by providing manpower and equipment, and both of the recipient firms were heavily involved through material support of the North Shore and Koloa communities with flood recovery efforts following the April rains.
Glen Takenouchi, recently retiring following a 35-year career as the Kauai Island manager at The Gas Company, and more recently, Hawaii Gas, was announced the recipient of the Robert H. Rask Community Service Award for his contributions to the construction industry and the community.
Al Leong of Ka‘iwa Construction was presented the first-ever Distinguished Service Award by the CAK ahead.
Honorable Gerald Matsunaga, an honorary CAK member, officiated over the installation of the CAK 2019 leadership team.
