As a reminder, all goldenrod August work passes are valid until Sept. 17.
The County of Kauai began exchanging placards issued to Wainiha-Haena residents and non-governmental agencies in early August, in an effort to combat a rash of thefts and attempted unauthorized access into the Wainiha-Haena area.
Window decals are being installed in exchange for the existing issued placards, indicating the vehicle has authorized access to pass the Waikoko checkpoint. The existing placard must match the vehicle in order for an exchange to occur. Exchanges do not require any new paperwork or any additional forms to be filled out.
All residential and non-governmental agency placards will expire after Sept. 17. Until that date, both the new decals and original placards will be honored by checkpoint staff during the transition.
Beige governmental contractor passes issued by either the state Department of Transportation or the County of Kauai, or Waikoko-only access resident passes, does not require an exchange and will remain valid past Sept. 17.
