LIHUE — Kauai Police Department Assistant Police Chief Roy Asher, who was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation in 2017, is back on the force.

The 30-year KPD veteran returned to duty Monday.

“A thorough investigation was completed and, based on the findings, no disciplinary action was taken,” said a statement from the county.

During his leave, Asher was required to turn in his badge, guns and other equipment.

Welcome back Roy! I feel that KPD has been repeatedly rocked by unnecessary and vindictive scandals and they’ve really hampered the effectiveness of the department. We all need a solid, unified police force that’s not hampered by personal conflicts and perceived slights. Principals above personalities as they say.

After more then 8 months on leave, the investigation couldn’t prove anything? I hope it was not KPD doing the investigation cause that in itself would lead one to believe that the investigation would be one sided as it was against a senior member of the department.

I hope that it was the AG’s office that did the investigation, if not, why not? Over the years there have been so many complaints against Asher by KPD employees, mostly women, that he always seems to get a way with. By the sheer number of the same types of allegations against him, it can’t be a coincidence.

This is why more don’t come forward, cause KPD Administration does not take the complaints seriously to protect the workforce from Asher

Well, at least we got an update. Any details beyond the Nov story which was thin with details and this story which is even thinner? An assistant police chief from the infamous KPD was stripped of his badge, gun (and pay?). He’s reinstated after 8 months and the public is still in the dark as to why.

What a joke. Kpd’s finest..2 steps forward 4 steps back. Same names over and over again. More tax payer dollars spent. I think it’s high time that the FEDS investigate the blue.

Okay, we’re now approaching one year since the story originally broke and we STILL DO NOT KNOW the details of the story. Well done, TGI. How about another detailed story on running? Or, what about the food bank getting a check for $10 from Joe Blow?

12 more days to a full year without ANY details as to why an Assistant Police Chief was stripped of his gun, badge and authority for about 8 months. Come on TGI, you can do better!
