PUHI — Island School is seeking a new head coach for its girls volleyball program.
Previous head coach Gary Maguire stepped away from the program “to pursue opportunities,” said Island School athletic director Charles Woolfork.
“He just got done being involved with the program back in March. He had his first grandchild around that time,” Woolfork said. “Also, he just moved locations with his business. So he did say that he’d be willing to help out here and there, but he’s also very busy.”
Those interested in the vacancy can email Woolfork at charles@ischool.org. Info regarding previous coaching and/or playing experience at the college of high school level is required. Deadline to apply is June 26.
Woolfork looks to hire a coach that plans to be with the program long-term. He said he wants someone with a positive coaching style who is eager and enthusiastic.
“We are looking for an encourage and hardworking, just someone that is encouraging and willing to inspire and educate our kids and lead them to lives of significance for the world,” Woolfork said.
He added: “We have a group of amazing players that have the ability to win the (Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship) in a couple of years. If we get the right coach in there, I just don’t see anything but a great ascension of our volleyball program.”
