PRINCEVILLE — Yoga with a live DJ, vendors with food and drinks, and a live performance of Hanalei’s Flying Phoenix band will all be at Church of the Pacific on Saturday.
It’s “The Green Party: A Celebration of Plants and The Planet,” an event that started out as an extra fundraiser for Hanalei School and an event that’s turned into a celebration of community.
“This is a time for all of us to come together after what we’ve been going through on the North Shore,” said Rebecca Hart, one of the event organizers. “It’s also a fundraiser for arts music and the garden program at Hanalei through the PTSA.”
Proceeds will go toward the Surfrider Foundation as well.
The all-ages event runs from 6 to 11 p.m. Yoga with Candice Teresa Neaves and Buti Yoga with Irie Angel will set the stage for the dancers at Sudeeka Bellydance, and a live performance by Kailani Hart and The Flying Phoenix band, the members of which are all students at Hanalei School.
“We’re excited for it,” Kailani, 10 said.
Headlining The Green Party is DJ Drez, whose records have a meditative yoga feel.
“His produced music is completely different than what he does when he’s doing live shows,” Hart said. “He’s kind of underground hip-hop, funk, reggae with a contemporary flare.”
As a DJ herself, Hart said she thinks DJ Drez is one of the best in the business.
“He’ll take some EDM music (electronic dance music) and toss something in there from the 70s, he’ll get everybody dancing,” she said.
Samantha Fox and Robin Fisher will be emceeing the event and vendors include Kauai Juice Company, Kauai Beer Company and Sommer’s Snack Box.
Educational booths about conservation, ecology, agriculture and plants will be interspersed between the rest of the vendors. The event is plastic-free.
Creating The Green Party was the result of scheduling conflicts for Hanalei School’s Starry Nights fundraiser, which traditionally takes place every year at the St. Regis.
After landing DJ Drez as the headlining entertainment, a scheduling conflict left them without a location, so Hart and the other Starry Night’s organizers decided to hold two events — one at the St. Regis, which happened April 14, and one at the Church of the Pacific this Saturday.
“It worked out really well to have Drez and the Starry Nights,” Hart said. “And now, it’s about coming together.”
Admission is free for keiki and $20 in advance at Eventbrite, Hanalei Surf, Harvest Market or Hanalei Strings &Things. At the door, tickets are $30.
