Happy birthday to Aika Funane, who celebrated her special day eating pizza instead of birthday cake at the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School Science Technology Engineering Math Night (kudos to Cory Nakamura and all the Wilcox School staff on a great event Friday night!).

Barbara Bloemke (she was at the Kauai Chamber of Commerce first quarter membership meeting with the Grove Farm people, too) and her class who created a hovercraft that even lifted Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. (no wonder he was late for the Y. Hata event), and continued to work the whole night, and there was Home wear to help ward off the chill from the north winds.
Kudos to Karen Silver, Faith Campbell and all those Wilcox Medical Center people who hosted the Super Keiki Day diabetes awareness event. Ron Wiley was there, splitting his time between that event and the “great Gathering” for the Kauai Community Federal Credit Union (oops, Gather Federal Credit Union!) annual meeting. Kudos to Jessica Herman (she finished second at the statewide Boys &Girls Club Youth of the Year competition!) on being announced the winner of a bicycle given away at the diabetes awareness event.
Lexi Jones and Chantal Zarbaugh (how did Kaimana do at Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf?) were doing the “shopping” thing at Kukui Grove Center, where Sheila Bradley of Usborne Books and More (is she going to be part of the STEPS family fair April 14?) had a portion of sales benefiting Kumu’s Cupboard (they close at 7 p.m. Fridays) during the Read Across America gathering, where Siena Agudong (nope, Juliana Tampus was starring at the Gather Federal Credit Union event) and Eliott Lucas were among the guest readers, along with Kimberly Hope McDonough (“Star Wars” never sounded so good with the live violin!).
