KAPAA — A car was removed from Moikeha Canal in Kapaa Saturday morning after backing over the embankment across from Country Kitchen restaurant.
The only damage was to the vehicle and its contents — clothing and personal items. No one was injured.
“I hit the wrong pedal,” said the driver of the car, who declined to give her name.
The vehicle reversed from the parking lot and into the canal.
The three passengers in the Focus jumped from the vehicle before it landed in the canal, onlookers said. The car spent more than two hours in the canal before it was retrieved.
A group of about 30 onlookers gathered as a crane pulled the 2013 white Ford Focus from the brackish water about 11:30 a.m.
“I’ve lived here my whole life and never I’ve seen nothing like this,” said Kapaa resident Leroy, who declined to give his last name.
I’m finding that I have to be conscious of which pedal my foot is on. It’s an aging thing.
