LIHU‘E — Tuesday, April 11, 2023, marks the 55th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act into law, which included the Fair Housing Act.

Dance show was well attended

LIHU‘E — A good crowd turned out Saturday, March 25, 2023, for a performance by dancers from Garden Island Dance at the Lihu‘e Parish Hall on the campus of Lihu‘e United Church.

Flag football registration ending

LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Activities League anticipates registration to end April 1 for its upcoming flag football season. Practices begin on May 1, and games start June 3, for divisions for players in kindergarten to 12th grade.

Kalapaki parking lot to close March 28 to 31

KALAPAKI — The county Department of Public Works and contractor Maui Kupono Builders announced that a Kalapaki parking lot including an area known as the Pine Trees Inn will be closed from Tuesday to Friday, March 28 to 31, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting, for resurfacing work.

County spring break program is for keiki ages 5 to 11

LIHU‘E — The county Department of Parks and Recreation announced that registration for the county’s Spring Fun program is scheduled for March 3 at 8 a.m., at recreation.kauai.gov. Enrollment is limited, and will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis.

Buzzy Cox an ace at Wailua

Buzzy Cox (the namesake of the Buzz Club golf group?), who has been golfing for 48 years, scored the second ace of his career at Wailua Golf Course last month, striking perfectly his Callaway Maverick 6 hybrid on the par 3 14th hole, playing 140 yards that day. Witnesses were Kalei Van Gieson, Katsu Shintani and Bernard Matsumoto.

Airport parking lot full

The state Department of Transportation Airports Division in a release said the Lihu‘e Airport public parking lot is full and temporarily closed.

Search for Gardner continues

The search for Kody Gardner continues, with Kaua‘i Police Department officers concentrating their efforts in remote areas of Koke‘e, where his vehicle was located, according to a county spokesperson.

Workshop is for those with cancer, caregivers

The county Agency on Elderly Affairs will hold a workshop, Thriving & Surviving with Cancer, beginning Wednesday, March 1, at the Lihu‘e Civic Center Pi‘ikoi Building, for those diagnosed with cancer, cancer survivors 60 and older and their caregivers.
