Frederick Charles Baum Jr.
March 21, 1939 – Nov. 30, 2016
Frederick Charles Baum Jr., a good and faithful servant, devoted family man, and a loyal friend to all who knew him, passed on to heavenly peace November 30, 2016. He was affectionately known as Papa Bear for his love and compassion and was a man of enduring faith, hope and perseverance.
Fred never met a stranger and was always willing to share his love and zest for life with others. His endearing wife Andrea of 32 years was by his side during his final hours at their home in Koloa, HI.
Fred was born to Wilma and Frederick Baum on March 21, 1939 in Bloomington, IL. He graduated from Bloomington High School, received a B.S. degree in Political Science at California State University Los Angeles and, served in the United States Navy with station assignments at Kodiak, AK and Stockton, CA. He was recognized for his honest and faithful service to our country and received an Honorable Discharge on Dec. 3, 1963. In 1987 Fred received his minister’s license from World Reaching Faith in Ventura, CA.
In 1962 he married Carol Hebing in Pasadena, CA. During their 17 years of marriage they resided in California and Montana. They had three children, Katie, Bryan and Angela. Fred enjoyed coaching their children in multiple sports and teaching them about the great outdoors. He was grateful to work with his hands and support his family through his construction work career.
In 1984 Fred married Andrea Wolfe in Ojai, CA. Andrea brought three children to their marriage, Kiana, Joshua and Matthew and, Fred loved these children as if they were his own. Fred and Andrea together were a dedicated and united couple; ministering as foster parents to over 100 children wherever the Lord called them to serve in Oregon, Indiana and Texas. They received the Oregon Foster Parents of the Year award in 1998. Andrea and Fred had a tremendous love for children and were blessed to adopt daughters Kaylee and Alyssa. This love was additionally demonstrated through
multiple years teaching children’s Sunday school as well as coaching youth sports for over two decades.
Fred is survived by his loving wife Andrea Baum, children and grandchildren; Katie and Rich Davis (their children Amanda, Julia and Rachel), Carolyn and Bryan Baum (their children Charline and Jenna), Angela and Tim Ryan (their children Hannah, Sam and Shane), Kiana and Jason Mosely (their children Mahlia, Kahlil and Ayanna), Leticia and Joshua Keiser (their child Paloma), Matthew, Baum and Emerald Ring (their child Kaimana), Kaylee Baum and Joe Bonilla (their child Leah) and, Alyssa Baum.
Fred is also survived by his sisters Barbara Burress (her children Brian Trotter and Kellee Crull), Beverly Murphy and Bernice Walls (her children John Walls, Michael Walls and Christine Street) along with Andrea Baum’s father Robert Wolfe and her sisters Janet Wolfe and Marla Randall.
Fred Baum was a man of God who lived a life of love, loyalty and honor. He demonstrated his faith through his unconditional love for people regardless of their race, gender and, religious or political beliefs. In his final years while living in Kauai, he felt extremely blessed to be able to create very special crafts using natural woods from the island that were given to him by loving and caring brothers in the Lord. Fred will be missed dearly and his joy, humor and positive outlook on life will be carried on for many generations. He is now “vertical” with the Lord.
