Free USGA Rules Clinic
The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association will be conducting free USGA Rules Clinics on each island during the month of March. These clinics will be held outdoors where ruling situations will be illustrated in simulated fairways, bunkers and hazards. The clinics will be conducted at the practice green.
Clinic site and date are: Puakea Golf Course: March 13-14, 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Conducting the clinics with Mary Bea Porter-King, LPGA will be Chuck Larson, PGA, Lori Planos, LPGA, and Lee Hardy. Porter-King is a veteran USGA Rules official who has officiated at many championships such as the Masters, Walker Cup, Senior U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, NCAA National Championship, and USGA Girls and Junior Championships. Preregistration is not necessary.
College Workshop – Preparation for Collegiate Sports
The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association will be holding a college workshop geared towards intermediate and high school students who are contemplating attending college as student athletes. The workshop will be held on March 17 from 10 a.m. – noon, at Waiakea High School’s portable classroom #21 in Hilo.
The workshop will give an overview of academic and athletic preparation from grades 7-12, NCAA recruitment regulations, scholarship and financial aid opportunities, college entrance and eligibility requirements, advice on how to increase the possibility of being offered an athletic scholarship and the life of a collegiate athlete. A panel consisting of Division 1 men’s and women’s golf coaches, Division 1 athletes and a parent representative (of a college golfer) will be present to answer questions.
The workshop is free for HSJGA juniors and their immediate families and $5 for non-members. Preregistration is not necessary.
Kawaihau Community Little League
Kawaihau Community Little League is currently registering players ages 10 through 12 for their upcoming Major Division season. Mandatory tryouts for new players will be held Monday, April 1, and Tuesday, April 2, at 4:30 p.m. at Kapaa, Anahola and Kilauea Ball Parks.
All 10 and 11 year olds presently playing in the Minor Division season are required to attend Major tryouts in order to be eligible to return to Minors next year.

Kapaa Pop Warner Association
The Kapaa Pop Warner Association is holding a community meeting Monday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at Wailua Houselots park pavilion. All parents and members of the community who wish to support the Kapaa Pop Warner program are invited to come and vote a new board in. It is very important that the public shows up to select and vote for new board members.
