The Kaua’i AJA Baseball League completed its 9th weekend of play Sunday, and still standing alone at the top of the standings is Kalaheo with a perfect 7-0 record.
Kalaheo pitcher Kaina McCallum pitched another great game in a 12-2 drubbing of Lihue in the first game at Vidinha Stadium. He limited Lihue to two runs on three hits, and struck out an impressive eight batters. Mikey Cardinez and Barry Kawamura graced the mound for Lihue.
For Kalaheo, Troy Kaneshiro had three hits and three runs; Liko Pereira slammed four hits and scored three runs; Kaina McCallum, Lance Higashi and Gerrin Itamura each got basehits.
For Lihue, Darryl Matsumura, Mikey Cardinez and Curtis Sadamitsu each notched hits.
-Kapa’a rallied for four runs, each in the first two innings, and never looked back to top Makaweli 9-4 in the second game at Vidinha. This is Kapa’a’s second victory of the AJA season.
Owen Koishigawa notched the win and Stan Morinaka, Jr. got the save for Kapa’a. Makaweli’s Mike Shimatsu got the loss, and Scott Shimabukuro and Russel Nakata each pitched in the waning innings.
For Kapa’a, Ryan Silva had a double and a single with three RBI’s; Robin Lore had a double and single, and Kendersen Caspillo singled twice. Lore and Caspillo each rapped two hits.
For Makaweli, Curtis Sadamitsu, Mike Ishibashi and Kule Nakagawa each got on base. Royce Ijima, Shimatsu, Oliver Moniz and Reid Tanita each notched RBI singles.
This Sunday’s games will be played at Hanapepe Baseball Stadium. Hanapepe meets Kapa’a at 10 a.m., Kalaheo meets Makaweli at 1 p.m., and Lihue has a bye.
