John Francisco Rivera of Koloa, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 14, 2005, at the age of 78.
Born in Aiea, O‘ahu, on July 26, 1926, he was a machine operator with McBryde Sugar Company.
He is survived by his wife, Lucena Balaan Rivera; four sons, Edwin B. (Letty) Rivera of Bakersfield, Calif., Roland B. Rivera (Carmen) Rivera of Lawa‘i, Edgar B. (Celeste) Rivera of Koloa and Fred (Julie) Rivera of Koloa; four daughters, Susan Reynolds of Koloa, Linda (Barett) Otani of Hilo, Eva (Calvin) Tamagawa of Koloa and Anita (Paul) Applegate of Waimea; 23 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchil-dren; two brothers, Amado Balanay and Toledo Balanay both of the Philippines; three sisters, Stella Alfonso, Carlina Reyes both of California and Consolation Cabutajae of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation also from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at St Raphael Catholic church in Koloa; Mass at 9:15 a.m. followed by burial at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park. Casual attire is suggested.

Alexander Buchanan
Alexander R.K. Buchanan of Kalaheo died Feb. 14, 2005, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home, at the age of 82.
Born Feb. 6, 1923, in Lahaina, Maui, he was a refuse collector with the County of Kauai.
He is survived by his wife: Ethel Leimomi Palama Buchanan of Kalaheo; daughters: Leimomi (Peter) Thompson of Maine and Marvelyn (Claudio) Clini of Milan, Italy; son Alexander (Lilinoe) Buchanan Jr. of Waimea, Hawai‘i (Big Island); sister: Harriett Panana B. Dennison of Kaunakakai, Molokai; three grand-children; one great grandchild; nu-merous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kalaheo Ward. Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. with services starting at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Barino. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
