John Francisco Rivera of Koloa, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 14, 2005, at the age of 78.
Born in Aiea, O‘ahu, on July 26, 1926, he was a machine operator with McBryde Sugar Company.
He is survived by his wife, Lucena Balaan Rivera; four sons, Edwin B. (Letty) Rivera of Bakersfield, Calif., Roland B. Rivera (Carmen) Rivera of Lawa‘i, Edgar B. (Celeste) Rivera of Koloa and Fred (Julie) Rivera of Koloa; four daughters, Susan Reynolds of Koloa, Linda (Barett) Otani of Hilo, Eva (Calvin) Tamagawa of Koloa and Anita (Paul) Applegate of Waimea; 23 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Amado Balanay and Toledo Balanay both of the Philippines; three sisters, Stella Alfonso, Carlina Reyes both of California and Consolation Cabutajae of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation also from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at St Raphael Catholic church in Koloa; Mass at 9:15 a.m. followed by burial at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park. Casual attire is suggested.

Mitsuyo M. Morita
Mitsuyo M. Morita of Kapa‘a, died at home on Feb. 18, 2005, at the age of 84.
Born in Kapa‘a, Kauai, on Feb. 12, 1921, she was a sales clerk with M. Miura Store.
Preceded in death by husband, James Morita and daughter, Luana M. Rapozo, she is survived by three sons, Wendell (Tomoko) of Buena Park, Calif., Richard and Wesley, both of Kapa‘a; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tad “Sonny” (Margaret) Miura of Lihu‘e and Dr. Calvin (Beth) Miura of Honolulu; four sisters, Yukiko Yamane of Kapa‘a, Kay (Minoru) Morimoto of Honolulu, Bessie Maeda of Lihu‘e and Aileen Miura of Honolulu; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Private services will be held at a later date.

Gordon B.M. Tam
Gordon B. M. Tam of Kapa‘a, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Lihu‘e at the age of 85.
The proprietor/owner of Tam’s Sports Shop, he was born May 7, 1919, in Kapa‘a.
He is survived by two sisters: Priscilla Leong and Marian Lynch; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private. Arrangements were handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Tomas B. Batara
Tomas B. Batara of Lihu‘e, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Wilcox Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1924, in the Philippines, he retired as a heavy equipment operator for Lihue Plantation.
He is survived by his wife, Felisa M. Batara; sons: Thomas (Gwen) Batara of Makaweli, Albert (Keiko) Batara of O‘ahu; and Edward (Deborah) Batara of Hanama‘ulu; sister: Gregoria Domingcil of the Philippines, Fely (Dante) Syfu of San Diego; granddaughters: Shantel, Shandyn, and Shaylie and grandson: Tomas-Kainoa.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Immaculate Conception Church where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Bill. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
